Hailing from Rome, exploring droned out electro pop territories with an interest for a refreshing hyperactive 80s New Wave, Newclear Waves’ soundscapes seem to surround a fruitful visual-graphical imaginary which deals with mass consumption, apocalyptic visions, weird machineries, post-modernism and the order of chaos.

Mannequin is a label and mailorder, based in Rome - Italy, founded in July 2008 in order to release and distribute music mostly from the Cold Wave, Dark Wave, Minimal Synth, Post Punk, Industrial, No Wave and Experimental area.

Last month, Andy Votel put out his Midlife Crisis Disco Mixtape on limited cassette and it sold out in minutes. However, the English producer, designer and DJ has very kindly given us the exclusive honour of releasing the mixtape digitally, for the very first time, through our podcast series. He is, of course the man behind reissue label Finders Keepers as well as Twisted Nerve, and has released a wealth of music under various pseudonyms on labels like XL. He is someone who is utterly free from categorisation having mixed jazz and hip hop at The Hacienda, documented the history of Welsh protest music on BBC Radio 4, collaborated with Demdike Stare, Suzanne Ciani and Gruff Rhys, and produced for Badly Drawn Boy amongst a lifetime of other dizzyingly diverse projects such as presenting radio shows for Gilles Peterson and NTS.

As the title suggests, his latest mixtape is focussed on outsider disco, and is made from original vinyl pressings only. Like the tens of others he has done over the years, it’s a masterclass jam packed with heat, propped up by funky drums and run through with boogie baselines or soaring strings. The tape brims with squelchy synthesiser colour and features vocals in a range of languages that lend it a worldwide feel and global appeal. It’s one for the ages, that’s for sure.

At just under halfway in, 2019 is undoubtedly another pivotal year for tech house, especially when it comes with a healthy serving of booty-bouncing bass and a delectable weirdness that accompanies a particular set of supremely talented artists. Enter VNSSA, who has seen her career take off in epic fashion this year, releasing on notable labels including Box of Cats, Psycho Disco!, and of course, Bay Area house mainstay Dirtybird.

Anybody who has had the pleasure of catching VNSSA live knows that she's packing some serious heat. With an exceptional talent for finding the right track at the right moment, every set she throws down is pure kinetic energy - and what an appropriate moment for that as she heads to EDC Las Vegas for the weekend to play no less than four sets, including what is set to be an action-packed pool party at Camp EDC on Sunday with fellow Dirtybird artists Justin Martin and Walker & Royce.

New mixes comes courtesy of Fotini Kappa aka Pasiphae. Those in love with Greek mythology would probably know Pasiphae is the daughter of Hélios and Persé, sister of Éétès and Circé, bride of Minos (king of Crete), and notoriously the mother of the Minotaur ! Also, in old greek, the name Πασιφάη means roughly "the one who shines for everybody".
Born greek but now living in The Hague, a city that clearly inspired her sound. Murder Capital-like but contemporary sounds, mutant alien funk, horror-fired dancefloor dystopia and skewed electronic soundscapes is what she does best. Together with legendary The Hague DJ Intergalactic Gary she produced "Made Of Glass" EP on Paul du Lac’s "Bio Rhythm" label before flying solo with "Siphax" on Interstellar Funk’s "Artificial Dance". Recently you could also discover her on remix duties for cult greek artist Lena Platonos on Dark Entries imprint. More to come for this rising talent and we're glad to have her on board !

Nummer's music is characterised by a passion for obscurity and authenticity. This characterises the records the French pair endlessly dig for, as well as the studio full of custom built and second hand pieces of hardware they collect.  When used to make their own music, the results range from ambient soundscapes to jacking dance floor bangers via electro futurism. It comes on their Nummer Music as well as Going Good with slick stylistic variations that also define this mix for us. 

The live and DJ duo create a loose and gangly groove early on here and keep it up over the course of an infectious 80 minutes. There's flabby slow motion techno, wiggling electro funk and cosmic acid call upon along the way. What ties everything together so neatly are the atmospheres around the tracks, which are never less than mysterious and inquisitive, so buckle up and enjoy the trip.
