Description: Echoing through a flooded cypress tree forest, first a Barred Owl hoots, and then joins a second to fuss back and forth. Deep voiced Pig Frogs and shrill crickets are a sonic backdrop. Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida, August 2022, recorded with Usi Pro omni pair and Zoom F3 recorder.

This is the ambient version of Voice. The piece is created from a flute improvisation loaded in a QU-Bit nebulae buffer combined with a voice like electronic texture from the Moog Mother-32 and granular delay algorithm of the Erica Synth Pico DSP. The plucking sound is produced with the frequency modulation (FM) model of the Mutable Instruments Plaits module.

Last year I captured calls from two chatting adult Whooper Swans at the Bothnian coast. This year they were accompanied by two juveniles. One night the conversation between the swans was intense, it almost felt listening to a concerto.

Night Listening means sitting, through the night, in a chosen location, as still and quiet as possible, often for many hours, absorbed in purely listening, while recording. This is an excerpt from a recent Night Listening. It involves three Brushtail Possums, and one Red Fox. The responses of the Possums to the barking of the Fox are very interesting. (Don't start with the volume raised to more than 50 to 60 per cent: some of the fox barks are quite close and loud.)

Recorded on the land of the Kaurna people.
