Monochrome presents, 𝖍𝖎𝖛𝖊𝖗 𝖑𝖑𝖑 : Stellah Maris, Öz / Exocet / Lost Area.

This winter, Monochrome is offering each month to one or several artists to discover their influences and inspirations through a forty-five minute to two hour recording. These three recordings will focus on percussive rhythms between Ambient, Deep Techno and Drum & Bass.

Artist biography :
With methodical contrasts, Stellah Maris animates magnetic tales. He plays rooted music through a surrealist prism, evoking sound rituals and lucid dreams.
As part of the Exocet collective, which he founded in 2018, Stellah Maris explores the depths and marine aesthetics in soundsystem culture and ambient music. He is also a member of the Nantes collective Öz as a resident DJ and sound technician, and takes part in the Lost Area project, a versatile platform offering visual works on a dub techno background.
Finally, he hosts Inconscient Collectif, a monthly broadcast on Radio DY10 dedicated to folk, traditional, spiritual and ritual music, as well as to the evolutions and experiments that have taken them across the ages and continents.

Micaela Casella aka E L A is an Argentinian DJ based in Milan. She began her musical journey in 2011 in Córdoba. Returning to her hometown Buenos Aires a few years later gave her the opportunity to get more deeply involved with her beloved Techno through the “Arjaus” School of Electronic Music.
E L A captures ambient soundscapes and subtle grooves full of surprising change. The psychedelic nuances in his selection constantly create innovative atmospheres. Her hypnotic sounds, inviting rhythms and timely transitions define her.

Happy to welcome Josephine' Soundscapes aka @machines-desirantes to our mix series! Jose Salas is an audiovisual creator and active cultural promoter in Madrid. As a DJ, or selector, he always works with a mixture of research from the past with a strong commitment to the present. He is currently part of the collectives a_mal_gam_a and CALMA, both working in the Spanish underground electronic scene. He also hosts a radio show called "Campos de Marte" on @radio-relativa, focused on experimentation in music.

This mix is a beautiful mixture of downtempo beats, acid synths and trippy melodies that builds up beautifully over 1h40. It's as he calls it, a "Machine Desirante" coming to life :)

Tribute to Amenthia Recordings by Monochrome (02.10.23)

"And suddenly we had to do a live show. In Barcelona. Each of us being in a different country".

 What does the city sound like, what do people say, how do you feel when you are part of it? Either passing through, or as a local. 
These were some of the first questions we put on paper. Sitting in a Berlin bar. Trying to get the tone, before going up to Alex's house and turning on the machines.  

From here, visits to the city of Barcelona were made and small stories were captured in transit; streets, parks, neighborhoods, markets, encounters. Barcelona, basically. We came up with an unwritten script that situated us somewhere to release our musical language.

.apart began its first steps with the 'Chapters', inviting either friends or strangers from remote places, to leave a sonic trace in our catalog. What we didn't know, or at least clearly, is that all these contributions would end up being our influences as musicians. A route through genres and styles to learn from. And one that brought us together to make this music.

You have given us one of the most important gifts. Artists and listeners. You are as much a part of this as we are. Thank you so much.  

And thanks as well to @mostrabarcelona, for being the dream stage, team and experience that this industry needs.

He has performed in festivals such as Sonar, International Noise Conference, Observatori 2001, Experimenta Club, and in many other different national venues. On his musician phase he was part of groups such as The Fellatios, Bukkake, Orquestra del Caballo Ganador, D_Infection (with experimental Spanish pioneers Anton Ignorant and Ferran Fages) and M&D. He was part of Damo Suzuki’s (ex-Can) side-group ‘Damo Suzuki and The Nou Bodies’. He was also part at the beggining of the colective label Magia Roja where he shaped and managed the music content of the sessions at their venue. He joined dj Watusawa, owner of Zona Watusa and Selvamancer labels, under the ambient - collage project Molar Novate.

"En este mix rindo homenaje —por enésima vez— al IDM de los 90, también conocido entonces como electronic listening music, leftfield electronica o braindance.
Para mí, esta música de los 90 se caracteriza por producciones ricas en capas y matices estimulantes, con sonoridades jugosas, ritmos intrincados, todo sostenido por estructuras melódicas evocadoras.
Piezas largas para sumergirse y viajar con una visión sugerente y hedonista del futuro — que era, al mismo tiempo, el presente — con una tensión compositiva de euforia contenida y alegría latente, siempre a punto de despegar hacia el éxtasis.
Es evidente la influencia que este amplio movimiento de los 90 ha tenido en la producción y percepción de la música electrónica. Aunque debo decir que mi fascinación viene sobre todo de lo personal: fue la banda sonora de un momento inolvidable de emergencia y descubrimiento, en muchos sentidos, durante mi juventud ".

The era is defined by productions rich in layers and stimulating nuances, featuring lush sonic textures, intricate rhythms, and evocative melodic structures. These are extended tracks intended for deep immersion and inner journeys, often guided by a suggestive and hedonistic vision of the future — which, at the time, was also the present — . Josephine’s Soundscapes is the moniker of Jose Salas, an audiovisual creator, art director, and active promoter of alternative culture in Madrid. When it comes to music, he has been an active participant in shaping Madrid’s underground electronic music scene for over 20 years. In recent years, he has founded and worked as artistic director, promoter, and DJ in club nights and platforms such as Paraíso Madrid, CALMA, and the independent creative cell a_mal_gam_a (Dance Cave; Avalovara, Listening Club; L’art Dance Club @ ARCO; and Festival En Pausa @ La Casa Encendida).

His work has continually evolved across a variety of cultural projects, both collective and personal. These include his seminal podcast Silly Europeans (2010–2016), his program Sonda Dispersa on Madrid’s public radio station M21, and his current projects such as Campos de Marte on Radio Relativa—a podcast dedicated to experimental music—and the curation of temple, the listening sessions at Espacio Perpendicular.
