Le Carousel is Phil Kieran's latest LP, which is great, it was a pleasure to work with this track, and all the better because I decided I was going to do something weird with it! The lovely pads and vocals provided the backbone for my remix, and I just tried to accentuate these with a long ambient build.

The track would probably work better just with this ambient part and no more, but I decided to add on some sort of odd drop at the end, where it goes all hectic with lots of double timed randomised beats. To continue with the unexpected theme I went for another extended build to total distortion, climaxing in nothingness!

It's probably not the easiest track to fit into a set unless you just use the ambient part, but it's always nice to just let go and mess around with a track without worrying about how it might function outside of what you feel you want to do musically at the time.

Every machine has its own acoustic signature - a precise frequency that indicates whether that machine is operating at peak performance. GE engineers monitor and record these sounds to perform real-time diagnostics on airplane engines, locomotives, power turbines, and medical equipment. Musician Matthew Dear and GE Acoustics Engineer Andrew Gorton teamed up to collect and compose thousands of audio emissions from the world’s most powerful machines. The result is an original track of music titled “Drop Science.”

Interstellar had a profound effect on me. From the cinematography, the science, philosophy, and ultimately the music. The soundtrack was absolutely epic, another slam dunk by Hans Zimmer.  I was secretly hoping that there would be a remix contest or something to engage musicians in the soundtrack. Alas, I haven't seen or heard about one, so I sat down and just let my creativity flow with the Day One Dark track as an influential starting point.

I created this from the ground up. There are no samples. I listened to Day One Dark intently and created my own stems for which to remix as if I actually had the pieces to the actual song. This ultimately is a mix between a cover and a remix. Note for note, beat for beat, it was really enjoyable to meditate on and create.

Enjoy…I hope the movie and soundtrack inspires you as much as it did for me.

New AUS Music signee Escape's original for the pseudo-eponymous single "Just Escape" was deep enough to begin with, clocking in around 105bpm and nestled in reverb as Daudi Matsiko's vocals croon over washes of strummed tones. Montreal-based Lucky Me mastermind and Azealia Banks' "212" producer Jacques Greene took the track even further, all the way to the deep end of the pool.

Christian Tiger School has spent the last few years captivating South Africa with their Electronic, Hip-Hop vibes.  Hailing from Cape Town, Luc Veermeer and Sebastiano Zanasi quickly became artists to watch with their LA Beat Scene inspired tracks.

Tommy Boy Entertainment is a legendary Hip Hop & Electronic label founded in NYC in 1981. The label is credited with launching the careers of notable Hip Hop legends Afrika Bambaataa, Coolio, Queen Latifah, House of Pain, De La Soul, and Naughty By Nature. 

In the late 80's Tommy Boy introduced EDM to mainstream audiences with releases from LFO, Coldcut, and 808 State and is credited with opening the door at Top 40 radio in America again for DJ's with the success of Bob Sinclar's "World Hold On" in 2006.

Known for fusing Electronic music with Hip Hop since its early days, Tommy Boy helped to establish Latin Freestyle and Latin Hip Hop genres with the release of multiple singles and albums from TKA, K7, and Information Society.

In 1989, the label became the first label to market its own clothing line to mainstream consumers via its Tommy Boy Gear line, partnering with brands like Stussy and Carhartt. Tommy Boy continues to license its logo to designers and retailers worldwide including Maharishi and Urban Outfitters.
