The first reel was composed by Paddy Cronin and was recorded on A Tribute to Paddy Cronin: Master Irish Fiddler by Tom Dunne. ‘As a Thoiseach’ is a reel commonly played in Cape Breton and can be found in the Simon Fraser Collection (no. 140), which is comprised of tunes collected in the Highlands and Isles of Scotland between 1715 and 1745. Another commonly used title for the tune is ‘Keep it Up’. Fiddle player, Brendan Mulvihill, recorded it as ‘Be Off’ on Dear Old Erin’s Isle: Irish Traditional Music in America in 1992, which is where I heard the tune. The third reel was composed by flute player John Blessing (1913-1993) from near Mohill, Co. Leitrim. It is often associated with accordion player, Charlie Harris.

I've been looking at ways to do my own version of "Fliter Dance" for years, I think I've finally nailed it. This is only a rough recording I made as I was  experimenting with a new to me microphone technique which was the whole purpose of recording, I'm quite pleased from that point of view.... but There are few wrong notes towards the end and I had a cold when I recorded it which accounts for the heavy breathing. Enjoy.

Fliter Dance

No idea if Polka's are supposed to be played like this but I've had a go anyway. It's a set of 5 tunes I recorded a friend from county Kerry playing a few years ago at a festival we were both at. I've only just got round to learning the tunes myself. The are tunes "The P&O", "Fada Polka", "Sonny Riordan's", "The Little Diamond" and "The Rocky Road to Mount Collins"
