A 22-year-old artist based in Paris, Bwi-Bwi began his production career when he was fifteen and is already making waves across Europe with his super-fresh deconstructed style of house. Since 2012, as part of duo M&C, he has a regular slot on Rinse FR, has released solo projects on the likes of Kitsuné and is now an affiliate of Lüüd Discs where this track was originally released on vinyl. His production on ‘Insight’ is well considered and intelligent. Every chord fits neatly into place and a purveying melody gives the track a familiar warmth that feels like coming home.

@wewillalwaysbealovesong is a French label with a very impressive back catalogue, bringing together the likes of Ilija Rudman, Tevo Howard and @PontyMython (who is the subject of today's Premiere). This is their 11th outing, the second of which has been pressed to wax. This is essentially a remix EP, harnessing the talents of Black Loops, Nebraska, Jay Haze and @Bal5000. Bal5000 is the alias of Bálint Forgács, a producer hailing from Budapest with previous appearances on the Dirt Crew sub-label Speil and the Nachtbraker headed Quartet Series.


The original track 'So What Did You Expect' released just over a month ago is a typically quirky affair, with plinky melodies and a funky bass line to boot. What Bal5000 has done with his interpretation is strip everything right back to it's basics. The intro of the remix is sublime, taking the chords and pads of the original and laying filtered smatterings of the beats creating an almost cosmic feel. Kicking fully in at just over 3 minutes, you would be forgiven for thinking that it dragged on a little too much but boy oh boy that it most definitely the case here, just the right amount of variation and tease before the beats and bassline are introduced after a rather large resonated high pass filter. There are many nice little sub-melodies and phrases going on in this remix, maybe some will missed in a club environment but on a set of decent headphones this can truly be appreciated for what it is; a brooding slow burner with amazing spatial qualities.

@Blaq-Numbers (and sometimes Whyte Numbers) is back with its fourth artist EP and, this time around, they’ve landed a low-key 5-tracker from the increasingly in-demand @Jesse-Bru. It would seem every underground label on its come-up is after the Berlin-based producer and the man’s output is nothing short of impressive. 'How u really feel' rounds out another strong year for the artist whose discography already includes releases on Heart to Heart, Axe on Wax, Piff, and a full-length album on Audio Parallax.

The title track starts the EP off with an unsettling vocal sample before getting into a swinging drum machine groove alongside a distinctly cheerier, driving chord progression. This won’t be the only interesting juxtaposition on the EP as standout track 'Turn you loose' also begins with an unnerving vocal sample — albeit a much longer, darker one before turning into a hard grooving edit-style track that Bru is known for. Whether this works as intended will be left up to the listener.

The @Folamour remix flips the underlying chord progression and brings it to the front of the mix — amping up the energy a few notches in the process. Loose percussion and live drum samples contrast the beefed-up chords and, together, make for a remix that stays true to the original.
