Hip Hop’s golden era constituent, Queens’ native, the godfather of Mafioso rap, legendary and influential emcee,  Kool G Rap, broke out in the late 80s and early 90s as one half of the duo with DJ Polo. Together, Kool G Rap and DJ Polo released three undisputed classic albums; beginning with their debut album, Road To The Riches (1989), Wanted: Dead or Alive (1990) and Live and Let Die (1992).

Simultaneously, G Rap and DJ Polo gained notoriety as members of the Juice Crew, whose noteworthy membership includes DJ Marley Marl, Big Daddy Kane, Masta Ace and Roxanne Shante At the height of  hip-hop’s golden age, The Juice Crew was the definition of innovative and not only influenced the culture as a whole (style, lyricism, creativity), but also impressed the importance of style, substance and technique upon the next wave of ambassadors (Nas, Jay-Z, Big Pun, Ice Cube, 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G. etc).   

After a successful run with DJ Polo and the Juice Crew, G Rap embarked on a solo-career, with his solo debut, 4, 5, 6, appearing in 1995, which was preceded by Roots of Evil (1998) and The Giancana Story (2002) which featured AZ, Nas, Joell Ortiz, Mobb Deep, and CNN. Six years later, G Rap released Half a Klip (2008), which included production from DJ Premier and DJ Marley Marl. 

On 6-2-17, Kool G Rap will release his new solo album, Return Of The Don, which is entirely produced by MoSS and features a veritable who’s who list of new and familiar spitters; Freeway, Noreaga, Cormega, Raekwon, Sheek Louch, Saigon, Termanology, Fame, KXNG Crooked, Conway The Machine & Westside Gunn (the newest signees to Eminem’s Shady Records) and the late Sean Price.  “Rest in peace to Sean Price who I was fortunate enough to record with” G Rap commented. 

“What motivates me to get in the studio is really being in that creative zone that you cannot just enter on demand” G Rap stated.  “It is more like an extremely powerful vibe that overcomes you. It’s triggered by hearing a particular track, or being inspired by another artist; or, a life experience that makes your mind and heart open up and lyrics just pour from your soul in the capacity of an avalanche.  That’s what The Return Of The Don represents; an amalgamation of past, present and future and a tribute to some of my most favorite spitters worldwide; this is my salute to those artists."

Canadian born (and a Toronto resident), MoSS’ production credits are instantly recognizable and have resulted in over 2 million record sales worldwide. Ghostface Killah’s smash hit “Kilos”, Raekwon’s ”Have Mercy”, Obie Trice’s entire Special Reserve album and most recently his debut producer album, Marching To The Sound Of My Own Drum, which featured appearances from Joe Budden, DJ Premier, AZ, Joell Ortiz, Sean Price, Jon Connor, Skyzoo, Inspectah Deck, Havoc, Slum Village and others.  
MoSS reflected on the creative journey that would become Return Of The Don. "G Rap and I have worked together a few times over the years and we reconnected and started recording songs that ended up being the foundation to The Return Of The Don.  The album kind of took on a life of its own."

As the final teaser off their upcoming ‘Immortal Titans’ LP, Tragedy Khadafi & BP team up with Connecticut’s finest, Apathy, to deliver snarling bully raps on the hard-hitting “Mastermind.”

The New York duo and their guest are also joined by Long Island legend DJ Stitches, whose scratched hook more than makes this cipher complete. He drops in venomous quotes from Hip-Hop royalty that serve to properly punch-up the brutal no-bullsh*t raps of Trag and Ap, who absolutely kill it with back-to-back verses.

Beyond the wordplay and slick quotables, though, these two emcees just sound focused and hungry at a time when so many other so-called rappers would simply phone in their verses and call it a day. But Trag and Ap aren’t your typical rappers, of course, and they simply body the beat from BP, whose combination of strings, piano keys, and drums is pure mayhem.

In the 1st half of 2018, Wu-Tang Clan fans worldwide were hopeful that the previous sale of the one of a kind Wu-Tang album, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, would change hands from the currently incarcerated owner Martin Shkreli to Wu-Tang affiliate Matthew “M80” Markoff who would release it freely to the public--- to be appreciated by all. In light of Markoff’s 1 million dollar offer, the sale never came to fruition and Markoff like most Wu-Tang fans simply wrote off the notion of the one of a kind album and any chance at ever being able to hear it after that. 

It’s a good thing that Ghostface is a man of the people! Wu-Tang Clan’s own Ghostface Killah will release his new studio album, The Lost Tapes, alongside legendary underground producer Big Ghost on 10-5-18. The collective goal was to bring fans back to the Ironman/Supreme Clientele/Cuban Linx Era sound. Both Ghost’s set out to revive that feeling, update it for 2018 and create another certified Wu-Tang Banger!

The Lost Tapes also features an All-Star Line-Up including; Snoop Dogg, E-40, Big Daddy Kane, Raekwon, Masta Killa, Cappadonna Killah Priest, Sheek Louch, Ras Kass, Michael Rappaport and more. 

After announcing the new project a few weeks ago with “Saigon Velour,” Ghostface returns with “Buckingham Palace,” which features Griselda Gang’s Benny The Butcher, KXNG Crooked and 38 Spesh.  “Buckingham Palace” was exclusively premiered by XXL. “Benny and the entire Griselda camp definitely got the torch right now and his style is impeccable. Denver rapper Donnie Raven makes his debut in a major way with “Rainin’,” a straight-up lyrical showcase featuring a guest verse from wordplay assassin Elzhi, with production supplied by your favorite producer’s favorite producer…Nottz Raw!

SEEZ MICS, the latest signee to Strange Famous Records’ digital imprint SFdigi, is a familiar name to followers of SFR. His history with the label goes back nearly 20 years (when he first hosted Sage Francis on his college radio show) and spans all the way to the most recent Epic Beard Men tour in early 2018, where Seez held down the opening slot on the group's mid-Atlantic dates.  

A fixture in the long-overlooked DC/MD underground, Seez is regarded as one of the most underrated and well-respected lyricists and poets in the indie rap world. His body of work ranges from traditional hip hop (primarily from his long tenure as half of rap duo Educated Consumers) to progressive spoken word - and all facets of Seez's verbal dexterity are on display in his latest work, Live Long Enough To Learn.

Seez's former radio guest turned label boss Francis praises his approach on the mic: "There's a well-contained fire in his lyrics, a measured and tempered approach to his delivery of them, and a very matter-of-fact manner in which he wraps everything up. That's age and maturity at work, which isn't often rewarded in the music industry at large." 

The respect and reputation earned by Seez during his decades around the industry is evidenced by the esteemed guests that appear on Live Long Enough To Learn: Sage turns in a verse on "The End Has Begun", and indie rap legend Slug (of Atmosphere) and Open Mike Eagle fill out the unorthodox posse cut "Figure 'Em Out." Production on the album includes beats from SFR labelmates Prolyphic and Aupheus, longtime collaborator Max Bent, and underground hip hop favorites Ecid, Ardamus, and The Doppelgangaz. 

Seez doesn't shy away from his status as a tenured veteran of the music biz, taking a furious swing at the grown-man-rap sub-genre on LLETL:  "While I'd like to think I'm the only artist ever brave enough to courageously explore myself in a mature and fearlessly introspective manner, I'm sure there's a painter or a proctologist or even another a rapper who has made a project with these guidelines. What can I say? I did my best, and comparison is the death of joy."

While he may opt for self-deprecation and humility in a business built on bravado and hubris, true heads (and the staff of the Strange Famous A&R department) are already wise to the razor-sharp skills and prodigious pen belonging to the emcee known as Seez Mics. Live Long Enough To Learn is the sum total of a rap life lived well, and is well worth a listen. And, you just might learn something before you're through.
