Washington Square Collage (disquiet0478)

This is my 1st of 2 contributions to the Disquiet Junto 0473...a duet with moduS ponY's contribution 'New Unit' to disquiet0472. It is called 'Leaf Blower'

I recorded the sound of leaf blowers working in Kennington Park, South London, on a grey, covid-19 lockdown day, during my one rationed daily excursion. These leaf blowers appear twice, obviously, in the track but also inscrutably as the sampled waveform which provides the melodic/harmonic base. There is subtle modulation of the pitch, and filter throughout. Tools used include:

Fog in the Channel; Continent Cut Off

Disquiet0473 Fog In The Chanel; Continent Cut Off (feat High Towers & Deep Wells)

This is a submission for the Disquiet Junto 0474: Police Action

I built this track from the excellent collaboration of @daniel-diaz and @forcedamage from Junto 0473. Respect.

Fifths Damage (https://soundcloud.com/daniel-diaz/fifths-damage-21012021-disquiet0473) had a very strong western feel, and also a feeling of being balanced between sentiment and action. We are each trapped in a dynamic equilibrium that gets us through the day, but the ground is shifting and the system is out of balance. The Ostrich is one of the last remaining flightless birds; surely that is not our fate? Make a plan.

I added a rhythm track to what I received, starting with the output form the Logic Drummer in hip-hop mode and then editing the results until they locked to the groove that was there, choosing a nice acoustic kit emulation, and running the track through a Fatso EL7X. Other tools used included a coles 4038, an iphone, Phil Moore's excellent Retro PowerStrip, an A&H board, Valhalla plugins, and Ozone for a quick and dirty mastering pass.

The lyrics came from the feeling above, and from fighting off stockholm syndrome from all the decades since Reagan and Thatcher.

The samples are from the 'crying indian' public service announcement of the last century, and the extinction rebellion of this century.

Houston Doppler Sketch [disquiet0476]

I sat in the dark with my eyes closed whilst stroking the touch plate of my Plinky synth with the output unmonitored. The audio, pitch and touch output were sent into a migraine inducing spaghetti nest of switches, dividers, envelopes and switch registers ttiggering randomly assigned voice outputs.
I ran the resulting audio file into delay and reverb to smooth out some of the jarring modulations and slowed the playback down a bit to make it less fidgety.

For this challenge:
Create a “musical collage,” however you might define it, likely using the equivalent of cut and paste. 

this is what I did:
1- Took and old track provided by my friends at Ethnic Fusion Sound (an Indian Raga with classical instrumentation and voice) kept the Tanpura and Santoor.
2- Took some tracks from and old song of mine, (titled Psyche, unreleased), kept electric bass and drum beats with synthesizers (here hardware old school: Emu Proteus, Emu Vintage Keys and a Korg T3, this was before software vst synths!)
3-Added some orchestral samples from my own collection of CD and vinyl (some usual suspects: Beethoven and Sibelius and a bit of Bach)

Psyche Collage (disquiet0478)

Las Ruinas Circulares: an electronic collage incorporating some of the eponymous work by Jorge Luis Borges first published in 1940 in the literary journal Sur.

Are we the dreamer or the dream? The act of creation is one of pain but also of necessity. The culture of judgement and personal responsibility posits the guilt of the agent. but is there agency, or does the house of cards rest on nothing at all; a supposition? Are we a construct of images, pasted together from scraps of memory?
