The American West is releasing their debut album, The Soot Will Bring Us Back Again, on March 17th, 2017. The record built upon grit and heartbreak, desolation and soul. The bulk of the album was recorded live to two-inch tape in three days at The Hallowed Halls in Portland, with the help of engineer Jordan Richter (Band Of Horses, Legendary Shack Shakers, Plastic Ono Band). The Soot Will Bring Us Back Again is flecked with pedal steel and longing harmonies as the album drifts between finger-picked folk songs and raucous country-rockers, all while the focus remains on songwriter, Matthew Zeltzer’s ragged poetry.
 
Matthew Zeltzer, who performs as The American West, hails from Steinbeck’s California - a land of farms and working-class beach towns, where a historic drought is not just a news story, but a threat to one’s livelihood. These bleak landscapes serve as fitting backdrops for Zeltzer’s songs of love and heartbreak, staged on the brink of an environmental apocalypse. 
 
Zeltzer wrote the bulk of the album in his late 20’s, while living in an Airstream trailer on an organic farm in Half Moon Bay. Flax farming in World War II left the foothills barren, and the farmers used livestock to reclaim the land. These songs echo the isolation of his experience, from “Ghost Town’s” gentle loneliness, to the grim narrative of “Patience, Young Conquistador.” Zeltzer carried his vision with him when he returned to Portland in 2015, bringing the timeless pastoral elements into an uncertain present with “Let Me Love You Like a Pauper Does”, a folk ballad equally indebted to Townes Van Zandt and Leonard Cohen in which a rancher looks on as his land is consumed by wildfire. Similarly, “Goddamn the Westward Man,” as catchy and vibey as a mid-70s Neil Young single, explores the mythos of westward expansion and the endless growth central to the American psyche.
 
These are songs about the human experience, but they are also about America - its history, its land, and anxiety about its future.  Listening to The Soot Will Bring Us Back Again, you can almost feel yourself being transported - nursing a heartbreak in an Airstream trailer in a barren field atop a mountain, a modern-day Tom Joad wondering how much time we have left.

Fronted by powerhouse vocalist/guitarist Brianna Lee, B & The Hive create music straight from the soul and serve it up with an intensity that is undeniable. Whether belting out a guitar driven anthem, or singing a hauntingly beautiful ballad, the sound remains the same - engaging.

B & The Hive has been touring consistently and has opened for acts such as The Goo Goo Dolls, Alanis Morrisette, Chris Isaak, Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, Ben Harper, Joan Osborne, and many more. Their sound has led them to play some of the top venues in California including the Great American Music Hall, Bottle Rock Festival in Napa, Vina Robles Amphitheater, Whale Rock Music Fest, Hotel Cafe, and The Mountain Winery.

The band is comprised of lead singer & songwriter Brianna Lee on Vocals/Guitar, co-songwriter and producer Josh Barrett on Bass, Hannah Joy-Brooke on Keys and Backing Vocals, and Hayden Gardner on Drums. The band performs with power and soul, backing up Brianna’s every move, making for a captivating live show that blends Rock, Indie, Pop, and Soul.

Bryan Jones created Buffalo Moses as a dialed in representation of his musical talents after four albums with his Americana band Buster Blue. Wailing on harmonica and finger-picking acoustic guitar, he uses his lyrically driven songs to explore the depths of his vocal range.

The narrative songwriting with Buffalo Moses brings to life an eclectic cast of characters only an inspired mind could conjure up. Much like the early country legends, Jones’ would spill his blood if it  gave life to a song.

Hannah is a Portland based singer-songwriter with a cinematic range of indie pop and folk rock. 

Hannah’s music is a mature meld of indie rock revelry and raw folk spirit, clutched together by catching pop elements. Her evocative lyricism, intimate vocal delivery, and enthralling arrangements conjure a compelling and eclectic blend of comparisons from Faye Webster to Fleet Foxes to Torres to Metric. 

With her co-produced album “So Far, So Long” (2020), crafted with the analog masters at Mason Jar Music in Brooklyn, New York, (Feist, Fleet Foxes, Andrew Bird, Chris Thile) Hannah’s new solo work beckons a new chapter of sound distinct from her former indie-folk family band days (2011-16). Her songs and mantra have not ceased to strive to give language to hope; having weathered losses, difficult transitions, and surviving brain surgery in 2017. Her cry for peace and hope, even in the worst of life's storms, is an invitation for all to fight to see and love others around them.

Hannah is a seasoned Portland artist and has been on the West Coast scene for the past decade sharing the stage and touring with a broad range of sound (Liz Vice, Jospeh, Y La Bamba, Catherine Feeney, Josh Garrels, Parson Redheads, Alela Diane, and more). With a voice able to adapt from singing gospel and soul at the Waterfront Bluesfestival to choruses in Spanish with Luz Elena Mendoza, Country/Americana in pubs to Alt-rock in punk venues, from the wooded stages at Pickathon, to intimate acoustic shows Hannah stands out with a sound all her own.
