Hailing from Los Angeles, California it's Joseph Caserta, short Caserta, who delivers four (House Music) goodies on the second installment of his label God Hour. Thereby he sound-engineer, producer and DJ namely pays tribute to the Beastie Boy's album Paul's Boutique as his four tracker goes by the name of Joe's Boutique. However, the EP contains nothing but House music that seems to honor the golden times of 90s US House. The A2, Let U Go, is based upon a heavy bassline and infectious chord sequences, which hit as deep as they can. In combination with the chopped up vocals Caserta created a track, which fulfills any House Music lover's dancefloor fantasy and is as classy and classic as a track from this genre can be. In other words: This is pure magic on the floor and around from an artists, who surely knows how to produce meaningful music.

Exclusive: Solar Plexus - Beautiful Y'Know

A new OPIA Records release usually means there are four new tracks to discover or music you did not expect to hear but you are happy that you have. With the label's latest EP, which comes from legendary UK artist Solar Plexus, the label around its head Tam Fallan dug deep into the archives to come up with the tracks, which can now be found on the 14th installment from the label, namely Solar Plexus' Lost & Found EP. All tracks date back to the 90s Trance/ Progressive House era but are re-mastered and re-edit, latter by LVCA. Lost & Found EP kicks off with Beautiful Y'Know? and the track title seems to be the credo not only of the track but the entire EP. The track's obvious Trance-note is enriched with slight Acid Bleeps as well as short piano-intermezzi and spoken vocals, which in combination create a let-loose-feeling for the body, mind and soul and unleash peak time moments on the floor. A great track to get the EP started and yet another impressive release on OPIA Records.

Currently enjoying the Italian summer Peter LC usually resides in Berlin enjoying the city’s vibrancy. However, the artist’s music manages the balancing act of combining both the Mediterranean ease and partly the northern European melancholia, sometimes Peter fuses both in just one track, sometimes his EPs process into telling exactly this story, maybe his story, namely that of an artists, who's cut his own path. Thus far, Pietro’s - Peter LC’s real name - path has crossed with labels such as Small Great Things, Raw Soul, Discodelic Records and RVZ, a sub-label of Sakskøbing. With each release he’s establishing himself more as a respected artist within the scene contributing music, which not only scratches the surface but touches the heart of dancefloor it is played out. Surely, there will be more to Peter LC and his music in the future, but for the moment let’s hear the artist’s story about his way to electronic music-, respectively House Music-scene as well as future prospects on his artistic-being. Therefore, Peter also prepared the latest edition of the art:cast series.

Wallace - Willow EP

Having initially forecast his production energy into his own Tartan imprint, Wallace’s music quickly developed a cultish following among record collectors and influential DJs including Gilles Peterson, Optimo, Hunee and Ryan Elliott. Another supporter has been CWPT’s founder Palms Trax, who, following releases on Studio Barnhus and Rhythm Section, snatches four highly sought-after tracks for the seventh release on the label, each showcasing Wallace’s inimitable and enviable skills as an engineer and a willingness to stoke the sort of organic euphoria that DJs dream of igniting.

Amongst the curios, rarities and other finds that have peppered Palms Trax’s sets this past summer, it’s title track ‘Willow’ that has levitated entire club and festival dance floors like few others. Escalating from a disco percussion loop, ‘Willow’ soon brings on high-energy melodies and a captivating sense of something more ethereal, seemingly reinvigorating old tricks with exciting new flavours: if you only raise your hands to one climactic snare roll this year, we ask you to make it this one.

This refreshing intersection between flourish and function is felt even more heavily on ‘Breathe’, a contemporary electronic battle weapon whose breaks-and-bassline arrangement fluctuates between weightless wonder and heavy business. Frontloaded with the detail and atmosphere of a vintage Chems or Leftfield cut, 'Breathe' exhales then explodes all the skill and reverie of the most memorable 90s techno.

Wallace appears to dip into the chillout room for the swampy rhythm of ‘Masada’, before proving his slow-motion mettle, a Sergeant Peppering of psychedelia creating true hedonistic density and groove. In conclusion and on the contrary, ‘River Dancers’ maintains subtle hypnosis at a similar pace with much less, employing simple timbres and a stuttering, innocent vocal inflection to conjure wide-eyed whimsy far downstream from the EP’s earlier, maximal wonders.

Where the Saudade LP focused on the more ambient and ethereal end of electronic music, True Clour was born out of a new found obsession with Eurorack and therefore takes a darker, more mechanical approach, focusing largely on mutant basslines, driving drum machine rhythms, and flurrying synth lines.

Torture the Artist - your source for contemporary electronic music

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its ninth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
