Portsmouth is best known for its maritime history and sights but less for its influence on the electronic music scene. Sometimes though certain parts of history have to be re-written, newly written or added as a result of further insights. It's to argue whether the Southern British artist Kris Davis has to be included in the big picture of the aforementioned music scene, what is inevitable though is his unique dealing with harmonies and the way of puzzling tracks together in such a skillful manner that it deserves a place in the books. After Davis had taken a break from the scene for a little less than a whole calendar year, he returned with his track 'Through The Door' on Frankey & Sandrino's label Sum Over Histories in June. The highly acclaimed track had been a DJs' favorite for a few months and gained massive support from melodic-oriented artists till it was finally pushed through a crack of the door to see the light of day. Shortly after Davis published the inofficial b-side of 'Through The Door', namely 'Forever Alone' on Torture the Artist – a guitar-enriched piece of music that gained the attention of scene's renowned artists such as Marcus Worgull. The releases are now backed with an outstanding art:cast – a mix melodically and emotionally so strong, musically so diverse and technically so smoothly mixed that one is touched by the effort the artist put into this musical piece with the very first sound. Davis combines own pieces of music with current favorites, unites moods and feelings – both expressed in the musical yet harmonic diversity of the mix – and adds the right amount of edginess to come along with a sound of his own. Maybe Portsmouth has been known for its martime history but for most people it will now be associated with Kris Davis' musical perception after hearing his art:cast.

Named after the Egyptian crocodile god Sobek has been crafting a unique sound within the realms of house in the past three years. With releases on credible imprints such as Monaberry, Chapter 24, TAU and Moblack along with sought after remixes on Stil vor Talent or Get Physical, Sobek has picked up support from some of the biggest names on the scene including Pete Tong, Adam Port, Black Coffee or Adana Twins. With a growing reputation for being a renowned DJ and record collector, Sobek has graced the decks at some of the worlds best clubs including Heart Ibiza, Faust Paris or D-EDGE. He also runs his own party series in his home city of Budapest, which has welcomed the likes of Tunnelvisions. David Mayer, Toto Chiavetta, Whitesquare and The Drifter alongside many others.

Secret Fusion Podcast Nr.:2 - Sobek

A few weeks ago, not long after we all went into lockdown, I decided to put together a mix, but I wanted it to be a little different from all of the mixes that were frequently popping up on social media. With that in mind I involved you in the process and asked for your suggestions of some of your favourite tracks from the past until now which I would include in the mix.

I was overwhelmed by the shear numbers of suggestions you put forward -  far too many to include all in one mix. However, I spent lot of time and love on the final mix, trying to create a special journey instead of just listing tracks that really stood out to me.

Digging through many old records like this, putting the mix together became quite emotional for me and it reminded me why I fell in love with electronic music in the first place.  It brought back many fond memories too. 
I really hope you enjoy listening to the results as much I did and I hope it stirs some memories, whether it be chills, smiles, tears or laughs for you all too.

Torture the Artist - your source for contemporary electronic music

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its ninth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
