At the crossroads of genres, Last Chance gives birth to Past Forward. On this second project, the producer plays with the codes of trancy house, blending them with a genuine love for dark disco! This year, Last Chance has refined their musical identity—shaped by frequent trips to Berlin—infusing their tracks with a strong new wave influence. Still enamored with nights spent lost in synths, Last Chance takes us on a retro-futuristic journey deep into the 80s, into a no-tomorrow cyberpunk dystopia where only the dancefloor matters.

“Technowave” opens with ethereal textures that build tension with subtle modulation and crisp percussive elements. As the rhythm unfolds, lush arpeggios and deep, hypnotic basslines intertwine, pushing the track into a euphoric crescendo. The careful balance of melodic storytelling and club energy reflects Steve Lovesey’s signature production style, influenced by acts like Tale of Us, ARTBAT, and Stephan Bodzin.

“This track is about motion — the surge and pull of emotion through sound. It’s Techno with a heartbeat,” says Steve Lovesey.

Madd Rod returns with Force Mécanique, a brooding and unrelenting single that channels historical memory into the present. Built around an archival sample of the 1940 French capitulation speech during World War II, the track is a stark reflection on the cost of surrender: political, personal, and cultural.

Released in a time of rising right-wing sentiment across Europe and beyond, Force Mécanique is not a nostalgic glance backward, but a call to remember what is at stake. For Madd Rod, the inclusion of the French broadcast is more than symbolism: it’s a tribute to a nation whose people have, time and again, stood up and fought for their rights, their freedoms, and their future.

Driven by a pulsing bass, dense textures, and an atmosphere heavy with tension, Force Mécanique blurs the lines between Dark Disco and Synth Pop.

After his live performance for the Riotvan label at Annalinde last week Leipzig's in-demand artist Panthera Krause continues the musical hotness with his contribution to the art:cast series. Therefore Robert, Panthera Krause's real name, delivers 52 minutes of disco-ish, groovey and housey music skilfully compiled and mixed as if the Leipzig creative were heavily influenced by the feel-good vibes the apparently starting summer holds for one. Art:cast #88 contains melodical catchy moments combined with saxy vocals and musically flows like an easy highway ride on a Sunday. Panthera Krause's contribution to the art:cast series resembles the artist's current musical output, high-quality still diverse in the selection of who he remixed, and Panthera Krause did quite a few remixes over the past months, namely he reworked Coma's Spiracles, Johannes Albert's 1-800-Piano, Kasper Bjørke's Venetian Binds, Benjamin Fröhlich's Memory FM or Mr Tea's Working With Animals, additionally he released his album It's A Business Doing Please With You on his co-run label Riotvan. Welcome to Robert's world, welcome to his music, welcome to one of the scene's present favorites at all musical levels.

Hailing from the Rhein-Main area Philipp Lauer provides the scene with top-class music under several aliases or with various projects. Under the Tuff City moniker Philipp produces music with Running Back head-honcho Gerd Janson, while for the Black Spuma project Lauer teams up with Fabrizio Mammarella and then there is Philipp doing music as Lauer and releases music on renowned labels such as Permanent Vacation, Live At Robert Johnson, Futureboogie Recordings, Cin Cin or Running Back. In all modesty those labels have defined the history of electronic dance music  over the past one or two decades. An influence that cannot be denied but can rather be found in Lauer's own music or DJ sets. Speaking of the latter, the charming Frankfurt boy, or the DJ from the speckgürtel, compiled the latest art:cast taking the listener from disco to disco with a dubby start to create an overall heterogeneous composition that soaks you into its vibe from start to finish.

Frankfurt-based artist Stefan Haag, better known under his Chinaski alias, has been spoiling the electronic music scene with his unique dark-disco-esque music over the past years at both: the club and on labels like Jennifer Cardini's and Noura Labbani's Dischi Autunno or Peter Invasion's and Panthera Krause's Riotvan and, of course, Live At Robert Johnson. The latter is not only home to Chinaski's physical or digital releases but, as it is connected to the famous nightlife club in Offenbach, offers the artist a regular playground to play his music to a sophisticated and demanding crowd. The same he shall reach with his latest contribution to Torture the Artist's art:cast series as Stefan smoothly guides us through an hour full of but not only disco-esque moments, skillfully mixed and compiled and resulting in a homage the genre has been offering its true followers as Chinaski shares his musical knowledge and experience with them, us, the (TTA) world.

Torture the Artist - your source for contemporary electronic music

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its ninth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
