Hailing from the beautiful city of Hamburg Rupert Marnie has taken over the Minimal/Deep-scene in no time and is seen as one of the most aspiring artists of it. With the reputation of creating extraordinary, exquisite and sci-fi influenced (House) music, Rupert Marnie is not only home in the electronic music scene but also delivers music for theaters. Both though seem to interact and mutually support each other. In addition to his creative outlets Matthias, Rupert Marnie’s real name, is part of Hamburg’s Remoto Records and co-runs a label called The Press Group. Shortly before the artist’s next release on French label Chat Noir, Torture the Artist spoke to him about his creative process, his preference for sci-fi, the record store and where aside from the latter he finds new music.

Torture the Artist - your source for contemporary electronic music

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its ninth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
