“As evening approaches, the hive raccoon of the procyonidae family will begin to awake from their slumber. Some will start exploring and travelling in gazes (droves) in search for forage in hive cities around the world. The hive raccoon, or Procyon alveare (a new species coined in 2050 in one of Japan's first hive cities), is unhindered by obstacles vertically and is found to be an exceptional problem solver. Many raccoon families live and nest in the air ducts and substations of superstructures; they will begin to use these routes to branch out into opportunistic areas around the city: garbage pits, recycling plants, restaurant dumpsters and the sort. 

Animal behavioural scientists have commented that some of the hive raccoons are changing. Unusual sounds of low frequency and high frequency (up to 30000 hz) have been coming from the superstructures of the arcologies in NYC-Arco. Witnesses say that these illusive “hive-cats”, due to their affectionate temperament and their tendency keep the streets clean, were gathering in communal groups at night, tinkering with the discarded technology from junk heaps and landfills. Our scientists have been able to isolate the noises, and what we found when we sent in one of our, a HumanMaschine raccoon, was anything less than astounding. Scientists and animal behaviorists are still going through the hard data, but tonight on our program show you vicariously with VR the dank underbelly of NYC-Arco in ‘Wanderers of the Megacity - Evening Treats”. 

Before we pour through our footage and data, scientists have surmised that hive raccoons, while popular in large numbers around arcologies and hive cities around the world, will often leave the relative satefy of their nests and travel in gazes of up to three or four animals. Their journeys will often take them into the wastelands and ruins of old cities in NAFS territory, returning from their scavenging efforts with prizes of large circular discs. Upon capturing one group and examining their forage, we realize that the vinyl discs in fact contained audio data: valuable Earthian cultural history that we thought was lost to the ravages of the ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ War. Scientists released the gaze and they scurried back into their nesting grounds, but to our researchers surprise, the raccoons came back, together hauling a larger roughly-woven wicker-basket topped full of more vinyl discs.

Scientists surmise that hive raccoons, with their burgeoning intelligence and increased cranial capacity, realized the advantageous effects of cooperation with us humankind. Perhaps, these behaviors are past down. Is it possibly that the hive raccoon population

More new members in the Toy Tonics family: JOEL HOLMES & CODY CURRIE joined the Berlin crew. They will release a couple of EPs. 

You might know Joel Holmes: American jazz pianist and keyboard player who has been member of Roy Hargrove’s legendary Grammy nominated band, but also is part of Carl Craig’s synthesizer ensemble. Joel is living in Berlin now, where he is involved in the new vibrant Neo-Jazz scene. (Yes! Berlin used to be a Techno city, but it’s becoming kind of a Jazz town now!) 
In Berlin Joel throws monthly jam sessions (the Urban Base Jam) where the creme de la creme of Berlin ex-pad jazz musicians meets up. American, Europeans.. Crazy things can happen here. Like when Erykah Badu played Berlin in 2019 and her complete band came to jam at Joel’s session after their gig.

Joel now takes the next step: he teamed up with Cody Currie: 24 year old London born talent, who already made some waves in the house scene. Cody is known as a stylized producer, with a unique recognisable sound. Much of his craft was homed in studying a bachelors in music in London. His most known work by now might be a jazzy reinvention of ‘Devils Shoestring’ with over half a million plays on SC and YT. With his new works Cody is coming away from sampling, Working only with live instrumentation.

Joel & Cody both  live in Berlin now where they met Toy Tonics head honcho Mathias „Kapote“ Modica. And when they met there was a vibe. All three have their roots and jazz music share similar ideas about how dance-music should evolve and could sound in 2020. (In fact Kapote Modica studied jazz piano, too and has been playing in bands before getting into electronic music)

Joel & Cody are working in a great Berlin basement studio, at Cody’s home. Working on a new way of combining jazz-funk with real musicianship, MPC grooves and live instruments to get a new , fresh approach on  dance-music. And there will be a lot coming up in the next years.

This week’s premiere is the latest in the line of sublime disco and funk edits curated, and crafted by Nicholas Church and Joseph Spencer of Casino Times. Hailing from London, this duo has released EPs and albums on labels like WOLF and recently, Omena. Third in their stand alone series of “Casino Edits,” they’ve laid down their own production on the A-side, taking a cover of an early blues classic and cutting it up into a groovy Italo-inspired DJ tool, interspersed with Spanish flamenco guitar and claps.

Malcolm ( @john-malcolm-moore) is the choice for their B-side cut. Based in Berlin via UK, John Malcolm Moore made his name as a member of the Tief Music crew, formerly one half of the duo Sisterhood and now putting out solo material with Banoffee Pies. His inspiration for editing this time around was sparked by the discovery of cheeky dial tones and voices within the intro of a late 70’s NY disco jam. Here he’s flipped it to sound much more steady and hard-hitting on the dance floor, with various percussions abound. Bongos, toms and chunky Linn drum-esque claps permeate the beat while girl groups swoon over top with harmonies. A male voice from afar whispers in “be with me tonight,” and suddenly the bass drops in sweeping in all the vibes and energy of the room (or more appropriately, loft).

This collection overall comes nicely paired for any party desiring that vintage touch and cosmic flair. Casino Times has released the beast from the box, letting all record collectors know where to find good, sturdy jammers ready to shake the foundation of any neighborhood disco.
