Very much a behind the scenes figure, Basic Chanel has recently crawled out from the emails to shimmy behind the decks. Hosting a regular radio show on Refuge Worldwide and running the long-standing music blog Untitled 909, Basic Chanel uses her platforms to share the music she loves and the stories behind the artist’s that makes them.

For this 4th episode of lazed mix series, Basic Chanel introduces us to a very specific selection of « beautiful dreamy ambient-leaning guitar music » she’s been collecting for a while.

Music to make you feel.A soundtrack to the most radiant sunset in the middle of the Nevada desert. A couple of cowboys riding through the heat, making their way back home to their loved ones. Sitting around telling old campfire stories, of past romances, of people you are dreaming about, of those you long for. A mindful porch moment. Drifting away on the ranch. A smokey sense of melancholy and yearning in the air. Always so close but yet so far. This one is for all the cowboy daydreamers. »

For the seventh volume of lazed, a mix series thought as a playground for listening music, we're happy to share violet U.'s debut mix. The Naarm/Melbourne-based DJ crafted a 2-hour collage of sounds that weave between electro-acoustic ambience, brooding drones, sparse breaks and left-field dub - a perfect way to showcase his varying sound under this new moniker. 

The songs contained within were collected over the past 2 years, like journal entries from the seasons passed. Inspired by the question of what it means to listen, the mix was recorded months ago as Country moved into what Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Peoples describe as Waring season. Intrinsic to this mix, the transient songs, stories and cries of the changing landscape find solace within.

"Calls of birdsong pull tides from the moon while morning dew dances to the rhythm of life. I see wind just as I hear the cold and my hands touch the earth while my heart feels its words. Each step louder than the last, I learn to listen to silence.

What does it mean to listen..? to sound? to others? to the environment? to oneself?"
