The following day, the company ABC Weekend Television would merge with, Rediffusion, London, would air its final day. That new company would become Thames, so Rediffusion's final day was a sort-of coda to the first age of independent television.

This was the last time God Save the Queen was played in the North West of England on Independent Television there, now that Granada would be a week long service.

After all, Granada didn't play "God Save the Queen" at their daily closedowns. So, this was the swan song of this anthem for the Northwest of England.

The West of the Pennines got the farewell performance of the anthem for commercial television, I mean.

The anthem would still be played on BBC 1 North West for 29 more years.

Did ABC in the Midlands do similar? I can't recall seeing anything online.

Although the final image on ABC North was Elizabeth II before fade to black and shutdown, what was seen when the ABC North startup climax music is heard for the final time? I think the ABC North 1964-68 logo is seen for the final ever time going from an animated ident and finally, a still. Then the ident fades to black for the final time, and that's when God Save the Queen is played with clips before the final fade to black.
