The sound begins with a pulsating darkness; a careful heartbeat. A scratchy, retro thump that will bring you back to an illogical sense that is almost like fear, but too childish or silly to be considered of that ilk; it's the sensation cheesy haunted houses or video game dungeons attempted to depict and the sensation is almost nostalgic. There is a longing in the beat. Unquestionably.
Stream in vocals. Sonorous. Deep. Sensual. Dreamy. Soothing. Your ears will feel like they're wrapped in black velvet. Her voice is woven within the beats the way you'd notice a maroon thread is knitted into a tapestry. The whole cloth is full and rich and warm. You wrap it around yourself the way you wrap your mind in your subconscious before drifting to sleep.
Listening to Never Odd or Even is like watching a vinyl record spin around on a needle: dark, repetitive, and infused with deep, retro nostalgia. I'd recommend it to anyone that's ever felt drawn to wine colored nail polish, the orange glow of street lamps, pixelated dungeons, or doll faces weathered with love.
