Martin Kleinert, founder and producer of the label NEW PORT surprises with the first release GROYNE EP. The late 2014 launched labels, style fits perfectly into the pure Techno genre. As a well settled Berliner by choice Martin Kleinert has never forgotten his roots. This can be recognized if you notice the labels name and art work. The first EP on NEW PORT provides straight forward direction and shows what to expect from upcoming releases and events.

GROYNE: The deep and powerful Kick is present from the very beginning and just slowly the driving elements of the tune are coming more and more into focus. Finally a fascinating Hi-Hat group on top of a metallic appearing Clap gets the tune really going. The sound wave made of the elements Synth, Athmo and the irresistibly pumping pulse out of Drums is moving towards climax - unstoppable, until the groyne suddenly lets it collapse into its very basic components.

OPEN GROUND: The deep and powerful Kick, surrounded by a mystical Athmo slowly gets the breathe-Hi-Hat out of the background just to be melted with the Bass-Drum. This gets you into the mood of another dark night without any limits. On the 2 and the 4 the smith relentlessly hits his hammer onto the metal while the vibrant insecure Synth carefully channels into perception. As soon as you think this is followed by silence, the clashing percussion gets your for the final showdown.

Dirty Epic welcomes aboard @dimi-angelis for the 125th installment of Amplify Series.

The mix is a live recording played at one of Dimi's Illegal Parties back in the day. It was recorded on the 18th of August 2002 and is part of a 5 hour set, vinyl only.

Thinking of Dimi Angelis, we quickly associate his name with pounding sounds, high-quality releases, and an iconic trajectory. Staying true to his sound, Dimi has evolved over the years into one of the most renowned producers and DJs worldwide.

Looking back to the nineties, Dimi has been one of the key figures shaping the Dutch techno scene as we know it today. His career has been marked by releases on top-tier labels such as Axis Records, Warm Up Recordings, Mord, KEY Vinyl, Tar Hallow, and the co-owned label A&S with Jeroen Search. This has led him to perform at major techno institutions such as Berghain, Awakenings, Dekmantel, and Tresor.

Another product of Dimi’s creativity is his solo label, ANGLS, which delivers raw and uncompromising techno. In recent years, Dimi has been a regular presence across different continents, frequently performing in Latin America, Asia, and the USA.

Widely celebrated as the pioneer of techno in India, Arjun Vagale continues to steer the course of the country’s underground electronic movement. Known for his intense, driven and raw sound, Arjun is one of the most prolific artists to come out of Asia, and his cutting-edge productions have seen massive global reach. Receiving numerous awards and named one of “Asia’s finest underground music exports”, Arjun is an artist, DJ, producer, live act, label owner, radio show host, and all-round music entrepreneur.

2021 saw Arjun release his debut artist album "Exit Fragments" on Jeff Mill's AXIS Records.
The LP received several accolades including the 'Best Albums of the Year' by Mixmag. Boldly moving away from a major mainstage career at a time when his erstwhile live act, Jalebee Cartel, was sharing headlining spots with The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy and Modeselektor, Arjun followed his love for the counterculture by traveling into darker, more experimental terrain. Always inspired by the sounds coming out of Berlin, he based many summer tours out of Germany before moving to New York and finally settling in Goa. Arjun’s knowledge and use of technology on stage is unparalleled, and he innovatively wields drum machines and modular synthesizers to create an electrifying atmosphere. His ability to literally ‘move’ a dance floor, not just play to it, has brought him to legendary clubs like Tresor, Womb & Paradiso, and prominent festivals such as Awakenings, BPM, Sonar, ADE, Fusion, Sunburn and Supersonic, playing alongside the industry’s finest.

His productions have truly put him, and India, on the electronic music map. Early tracks like “She Said” and “Terrakoz” were championed by Hawtin and Dubfire, and subsequently licensed to compilations by Carl Cox and John Digweed. Remixes soon followed for Danny Tenaglia, Victor Calderone and Dave Seaman. 	Following the S_W_Z_K debut album, which came out on Tresor Records before the summer, David Brown offers here further insights into the most recent developments of his new departure. Receiving the help of long-time collaborator and friend Richard Davis, the duo continues its dive into the concrete and metallic landscapes found on their eponymous LP effort.

	The Variant & Empires EP however marks somewhat of a slight departure from the obscure experimental investigations previously undertaken. "TC4 Variant" is a roaring number, aiming specially at the dancefloor and taking the duo's energy to its highest point, while "Second City Of The Empire" intimately unveils the deeper side of their enterprise.


A. TC4 Variant

At midnight, on March 13th 1991, a basement door opened at Leipziger Strasse 126, Berlin. Through this door, many passed, on their way to defining new terrains in electronic music. There they found a dance floor in the vaults of a closed-down department store, with a unique sound bound to dense fog, building night after night a history that was also a vision of the future. 

This history has seen in Jeff Mills’ first sets on three turntables, Underground Resistance's first live appearances in Europe, grandiose Tresor Park parties, to various chapters of the Loveparade with Sven Väth in the 90s and since then countless generation-spanning parties. These moments represent the highlights of infinite personal clubbing experiences. It is the manifestation of the Berlin spirit, emerging from its considerable strife. This history is not without its complications - from temporary closure by the authorities and several raids in the early years to closure and demolition of the old location in 2005. What followed was years of wandering in exile and, finally, resurrection in the new home in Kraftwerk Berlin.

These stories, conversations and shared experiences within our walls forge a resilience that drives towards a shared ideal, the Tresor sound: community, resistance, and the world to come. This was observed in the newly re-unified German youth, who danced and celebrated together from the club’s inception, and into the present day through ongoing community work in Detroit. 

Tresor Records was founded in the same year and began to serve as a platform for exporting the new sounds associated with Tresor all around the world. Emergent musicians from Michigan, such as Juan Atkins, Underground Resistance and Drexciya, were pivotal in shaping these early years. Their visits to Berlin would kick-start dialogue between the youth movement in Europe and these musicians. This story is one of friendship and community-building, inextricably linked with cities like Detroit, Birmingham or Edinburgh, where like-minded friends built something truly special, where revelatory rhythms soundtrack decaying industry in corrupted metropoles. 

Tresor Records has been the fertile soil for dozens upon dozens of creative minds, from the very luminaries of the scene who developed electronic music over the last three decades through to contemporary protagonists who are currently defining the sound of the future -  A more than 300 strong catalogue displays an unmistakable identity - the Tresor spirit.

To those that have danced before, and to those that will dance in the future: the light at the end of the long Tresor tunnel is a signal. A flicker amidst the fog. This is our future. This is our place.
