Since 1991, Tresor has provided a home for artists to develop their ideas for advanced new sounds and broadcast them to the world. The pioneers that first traversed the Detroit-Berlin connection and were at the forefront of a new cultural movement gave to Tresor its original and continuing mission: community, resistance and reshaping the world to come.

The Tresor 30 compilation represents a major landmark in this continuing history of electronic music. This unique collection of music profiles some of the artists that gave the previous three decades of Tresor its sound and foundation, but it also casts its gaze forward. Writing new postcards from the future, this collection brings new artists who maintain a connection to that original mission to the fore, charting ways in which this ethos can continue to build bridges and break walls in the next 30 years.

Bringing together 52 essential tracks - both classics and exclusive commissions - each of the 12 records in this box-set charts a unique line of flight from those artists that helped define the shape of this new music to those who continue to pattern its landscape further.

Celebrations are in store, as we’re overjoyed to see the lovely Argentinian label Danza Nativa hit its fifth birthday in stride. From the start, the imprint helmed by Alderaan, Forest On Stasys, and Kyntral has been a proverbial force to be reckoned with, providing many a favorite tune over the years. We’ve been following them closely, and have enjoyed the progression of sound, a progression which is evident in their seminal 5 Years of Danza Nativa compilation. Featuring contributions from Anthony Linell, Amandra, echologist, Plants Army Revovler, Polygonia, Dino Sabatin, Luigi Tozzi, Claudio PRC, Daniel[i], Vanoni, Shoal, Vera Logdanidi, as well as all three founders, the compilation packs an incredible punch and speaks volumes to how well respected the label has become over the years.

Our premiere comes from fellow New York based artist, Brendon Moeller and his echologist moniker. The raucous Mobil comes charging out of the gate with an upbeat tempo and dubby pads, providing a dose of energy to pick listeners up. As the tune progresses, growling synths and a litany of percussion, and textures pop in and out of focus, providing a jazzy ensemble to keep things moving.

Danza Nativa’s 5 year celebration compilation will be released both digitally and for the first time ever from the label on vinyl, the 15th of April. Congratulations to Alderann, Forest On Stasys, and Kyntral, here’s to 5 more years of Danza Nativa!

@Marco_shuttle first caught our ear many years ago when we discovered his music the old fashioned way, picking up his Clone Store Only Series record at Halcyon in Brooklyn. This mysterious record led to becoming obsessed with his incredible, self-released podcasts that were floating around online at the time so we reached out to him and ended up working together to put his Fanfara EP out on our label in 2014, when he was almost unknown in North America. Since then, his music career has grown in leaps and bounds. He’s no longer at his day job in the fashion industry but tours and produces full-time, releasing albums on his own Eerie Records, Donato Dozzy and Neel’s Spazio Disponibile, as well as a string of killer EPs on several respected imprints. His productions and DJ skills have led to repeat bookings at Labyrinth Festival, Berghain, Concrete, Fabric, De School and just about everywhere else around the world where discerning heads congregate to hear great techno. 

When Marco was in Brooklyn to play an 8 hour set at The Bunker Limited earlier this year he played some new demos that stuck out as something exceptional, even by his very high standards, and we knew we had his next record on The Bunker New York ready to go. We’re psyched to present these intricate and detailed jams for your enjoyment in foggy dance floor corners. These tracks all have that unmistakable Marco Shuttle vibe with plenty of deliberate, slightly twisting melodies, shadowy disembodied echoing vocals courtesy of @gabriellavergilov that let your brain fill in the meaning, underpinned with punches of tautly layered rhythms.

"What's in a name?" asked Shakespeare a few centuries back. "That which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet," continued the poet. Well, when one listens to Birds Ov Paradise, the answer to old Willie's classic question is actually "Everything". It's rare to hear an artist with such clarity of vision and singularity of purpose; it's even more precious to have the artist's moniker almost define that vision. Pick any track from Birds ov Paradise and you'll hear birds in it. No, not a happy bird chirping in the background, but a litany of reverberated, occasionally rhythmic and occasionally chaotic percussive whispers, pokes, ticks and tacks, that indeed sound like a fluttering of wings. Sometimes those sounds resemble a flock of birds happily flying around a park on a sunny day; sometimes the birds are creating a menacing sense of tension straight out of Hitchcock, and sometimes the sounds channel somber darkness of ravens circling an old oak tree in a dark forest in the gray of twilight. "Wild Growth" leans towards the light rather than darkness. And with it's stronger sense of melodic purpose and benign ambiance, it sounds more like an early morning of what will turn out to be a sunny day, with minimalistic "birds" ambiance providing a sense ease and hope rather than gloom that's prevalent on many other tracks from the artist. It's another gem in the artist's library and clearly an original in a landscape overflowing with too many derivative producers.

As release notes for the entire compilation starkly state in the beginning, “these are strange times and it looks like the whole world is going crazy”. Indeed! And my mind, when faced with fear, anxiety and uncertainty about the future, quickly rushes to my happy place. My happy place is a summer festival…thousands of people dancing, hugging, frantically waving their glow sticks, sucking on a pacifier and thrashing about in their ridiculously wide pants. Ok, ok… my happy place is a 90’s rave..guilty as charged! But have you ever danced to Underworld on a warm summer night? If you want to know that feels, you don’t have to dig for that Underworld CD. Just cue Vril and His Master’s Voice’s “Cryosleep”. 30 seconds into that track and you’ll think Bill Clinton is still in office and those raver pants are a thing of beauty. That track is a time machine! We have all the raver era boxes checked: breakbeat, happy heavy synth, perfect drive, and even Underworld-like spoken word are bellowing in the background. If you are old enough to remember, you WILL do a happy dance; if you have the misfortune of being too young, slip the track to your grandpa and watch him start working his cane like a glow stick.

‘Cryosleep’ is a part of ‘Solidarity Is a Weapon’, the 19-track charity compilation set to be released via Turnland on February 5th. All proceedings will go to Rote Hilfe E.V organization. So who is “Rote Hilfe E.V.” and why does the money made with this compilation go to them? This organization puts the main focus on the financial and legal support of left activists who face repression in Germany and helps antifascists who are searching for political asylum in Germany.

PREMIERE: VRIL & His Master's Voice as Adderall - Cryosleep [Turnland]

At midnight, on March 13th 1991, a basement door opened at Leipziger Strasse 126, Berlin. Through this door, many passed, on their way to defining new terrains in electronic music. There they found a dance floor in the vaults of a closed-down department store, with a unique sound bound to dense fog, building night after night a history that was also a vision of the future. 

This history has seen in Jeff Mills’ first sets on three turntables, Underground Resistance's first live appearances in Europe, grandiose Tresor Park parties, to various chapters of the Loveparade with Sven Väth in the 90s and since then countless generation-spanning parties. These moments represent the highlights of infinite personal clubbing experiences. It is the manifestation of the Berlin spirit, emerging from its considerable strife. This history is not without its complications - from temporary closure by the authorities and several raids in the early years to closure and demolition of the old location in 2005. What followed was years of wandering in exile and, finally, resurrection in the new home in Kraftwerk Berlin.

These stories, conversations and shared experiences within our walls forge a resilience that drives towards a shared ideal, the Tresor sound: community, resistance, and the world to come. This was observed in the newly re-unified German youth, who danced and celebrated together from the club’s inception, and into the present day through ongoing community work in Detroit. 

Tresor Records was founded in the same year and began to serve as a platform for exporting the new sounds associated with Tresor all around the world. Emergent musicians from Michigan, such as Juan Atkins, Underground Resistance and Drexciya, were pivotal in shaping these early years. Their visits to Berlin would kick-start dialogue between the youth movement in Europe and these musicians. This story is one of friendship and community-building, inextricably linked with cities like Detroit, Birmingham or Edinburgh, where like-minded friends built something truly special, where revelatory rhythms soundtrack decaying industry in corrupted metropoles. 

Tresor Records has been the fertile soil for dozens upon dozens of creative minds, from the very luminaries of the scene who developed electronic music over the last three decades through to contemporary protagonists who are currently defining the sound of the future -  A more than 300 strong catalogue displays an unmistakable identity - the Tresor spirit.

To those that have danced before, and to those that will dance in the future: the light at the end of the long Tresor tunnel is a signal. A flicker amidst the fog. This is our future. This is our place.
