"I Can't Do This Alone" details the struggle that Twilight Sparkle faces against King Sombra in the Season 3 premiere. The song deals primarily with her inner turmoil, as she faces the reality that she alone cannot defeat Sombra, and comes to terms with having to sacrifice her own interest of passing Princess Celestia's test in order to save the Crystal Ponies from certain destruction.
