Premiere: Novatek - Beats Me

After a lengthy hiatus, we have released the 20th edition of our podcast series, featuring Nightime Drama’s, Trinity!

This one-hour mix encapsulates Trinity’s style of deep, hypnotic, hard techno, from a selection of both new and unreleased material.

Trinity is a DJ, live performer and producer based in Eora/Sydney.  Now celebrating her 20th year in the music industry, Trinity has earned the respect and love of fans, dancers and peers from Sydney to Berlin — and many destinations in between. Her abundant and diverse talents, her famous work ethic, and her uncompromising musical vision have made her a force to be reckoned with in the world of techno.

Trinity was billed alongside Richie Hawtin at the Vivid Sydney festival at Sydney Opera House; headlined Sydney’s world-famous Mardi Gras celebration; and has played at Tresor, Tomorrowland and many other clubs and festivals across Europe. Other stops on her musical travels have included New Zealand, India and Amsterdam’s famed Red Light Radio.

Each of Trinity’s live shows is marked by her unique versatility: from deep dub-techno, acid and electro to peak-time techno — all combining for a distinct and moving soundscape. Trinity is also one-half of boundary-breaking live act Phax Machine (along with partner Analogue Resistance), with the duo focusing especially on tougher breakbeat and classic rave sounds. 

Trinity’s recorded output includes collaborations with Luke Hess, Eric Cloutier, Headless Horseman and XDB, with her releases making their way into some of the best record shops in the world including Berlin’s Hard Wax. Trinity also runs A&R for the Australian techno label Nightime Drama.

After taking a break from DJing and performing during the pandemic to focus on running her business and parenting, Trinity is back — with a focus on quality over quantity and the same dedication and musical integrity as ever.

EKB was a short-lived band project Alex Kruger and Henrik Frenzel, accompanied by vocalist Nadine Hemme, worked on from 1996 until 1998. They played a few gigs in Berlin and only released a single piece, a remix for a tune Alex and Nadine did as Korsakow & Nadine on BCC. The three had each a very different musical background that let to a wild mixture of New Wave, Jungle & Breaks, Triphop, Industrial & EBM, Techno and Ambient, Emo and Hardcore and Punk in general. Since their focus was to play live, they didn’t get much stuff ready to be released and when they prepared to do so, they realised that they didn’t fit together very well. Afterwards Alex and Nadine founded the Echobox project that led to the release of two albums and a 12“ and several other collaborations and Henrik started to work on radio plays and copyright free music.

In the end of 1996, Alex and Henrik did a few sessions to find their own sound. Amongst these recordings were Mysterious Fireballs and Spider Web.
Both tracks are raw and break-oriented, while Spider Web being rather uptempo, driving with an obvious influence by a certain UK sound of that time.
Trivia: Mysterious Fireballs contains a very similar synth sequence as Korsakow’s. ‚Deep In Space‘, originally released on Müller in 2007 and already re-released on Forms & Figures a few years ago. The two tracks were both recorded within a week.

To release these pieces such a long time after their very spontaneous and semiprofessional production, we used an AI program to separate the drums and bass from the rest of the music and then mixed everything back together again with a few additional, modern studio tricks. They do not sound 100% perfect and maybe in ten or twenty years we might be able to get them to sound better but for the moment it is highly satisfying for us to be able to share with you. They have a high personal and historical value for us that we can’t allow to rot in our vaults.

Æ Recordings – the infamous sublabel of Thule Records was responsible for some of the finest techno releases from Iceland in the early 2000s. With the motherlabel on full throttle it was ideal to revive the enigmatic junior label as well. The label was known for bringing in fresh winds into the scene – and this release doesn‘t stray away from the concept at all. 

The debut release of Nonnimal, a young and innovative producer from Reykjavik, is both oracular and hard-hitting. The A-side offers two outstanding atmospheric minimal techno anthems – perfect for the late backroom during a long-night out. B-side has three tracks – ready for to hypnotize the dancefloor with its repetitive percussions and its unwavering groove. 

Æ Recordings/Thule Records is considered by many to be a pioneers in the field of dub-influenced techno music and was a starting point for many of Iceland‘s most renowned electronic musicians.

Trinity is a DJ, live performer and producer who divides her time between Sydney and Berlin. 

She currently handles A&R and events for Australian techno label Nightime Drama.   As a performer, she was billed alongside Richie Hawtin as part of the Vivid Sydney festival at Sydney Opera House; and she has played at Tresor, Tomorrowland and many other clubs and festivals across Europe. Trinity is also a longtime guiding force on the Sydney underground, producing parties featuring artists and DJs including Steffi, Artefakt, Peter Van Hoesen, Steffi and Eli Verveine.  

Thanks to her famous work ethic and many long days and nights in the studio, Trinity’s recorded output keeps growing, and includes collaborations with Luke Hess, Eric Cloutier, Headless Horseman and XDB. Her recent vinyl EP ‘Adrifting Voyage’ in collaboration with Steven Tang made its way into some of the best record shops including Hardwax, and her debut full-length album Blinded by 1000 Points of Light (in collaboration with John Tzineris) was received with critical acclaim.

This week for episode 16, we have another amazingly talented artist going by the name of Trinity.

After having polished her craft by playing at some of the most iconic clubs and festivals in the world such as Tresor and Tomorrowland, Trinity brings with her a unique versatility that flows through myriad genres of techno, acid as well as electro. 

We were lucky enough to have her in support of Regis at UNDISCLOSED 23.0, where she recorded this set live that we now bring to you.
