"Clearing their cache of stray bullets, Exael returns with a gyring plunge into percussive wormholes and low-lit mood enhancers .The tracks are broadly cleft along schisms of dark/light and demonic/angelic, switching from restive propellers to more sublime sensations in a fine testament to their practice - making for prob our favourite Exael release thus far.

On the “darker” side, they commit the convulsive, fractious footwork pulses and warped tones of ‘Circle (Squishy Mix)’ in a sort of parallel to 33EMYBW’s insectoid rhythms and combustion systems, while ‘Ice That melts The Tips’ trades in rapid, ice-skating thizz and ‘Ghoul Search (Demonic Attachment Mix)’ fires up the junglist particle accelerator for a proper gauntlet of hyper techstep dynamics.

The contrast is epitomised by ’Composure’, arranging flinty breaks on a luscious waterbed of floating pads, before ‘Eidolon’ renders a sort of airborne dembow pressure in the vicinity of Ben Bondy & special guest dj’s xphresh works.  ‘L-theanine’ closes the session on a fine tread inside emo ambient styles and flurries on the same spectrum between DJ Lostboi and Teresa Winter, complete with a reverberating, half-buried vocal.

Gliding in through the Deutsche bass-biome, we gladly present label newcomer, @genus-aix (aka Jost Wessel). Welding true to the INDEX:essence™, “Heavy Metal, Solid State” is a spectrum of sonic winds. Migrating across 5 low-end rifters, Wessel sound-designs a liquefaction of moods that weave in and out of various textures and inspirations. The result is a shimmering dramaturgy that has the feel of a well plotted mini-album — a start-to-finish 'xperience and a fledgling tease into the talents of Genus Aix.

Nervous Horizon is delighted to welcome New York-based producer and DJ Ma Sha to the roster with a high-voltage three-track EP titled "Elastik".

For her Nervous Horizon debut, the Kindergarten' honcho immerses herself in a solitary sonic journey drawing inspiration from the concept of self-isolation-induced time distortion and the interplay of the diverse rhythms intertwining in her environment. From the quick motion of people outside her Ridgewood apartment juxtaposed with the slow, fluid movements of her indoor plants, to the intense traffic on Myrtle Ave contrasting the flowing red light shadows on her studio walls, Ma Sha blends warped reality and sound exploration forming the perfect collage.

Shaping her distinct solo sound with a focus on finding a balance between her critical thinking and intuition, each track resonates with different emotional states. By aligning heavily time-stretched elements with chopping and granulation techniques, Ma Sha skillfully incorporates the altered time concept within the tracks' structure. If "KV December" mirrors unpredictable emotional fluctuations, in both "Myrtle Warp" and "Psyspi" vocal textures' shifts and layered synths co-exist with bold and sharp percussion. Accompanied by a fresh take by Ehua on one of the originals, the EP unravels around a warped perception of time while consistently maintaining the playful atmosphere that defines Ma Sha's personality and the music that truly inspires her.

On Escape from the Club, @alecpace makes his return to All Centre, following up his Absolute Pressure EP from 2019 with four wonky, breakneck techno cuts.

Opener Linea kicks off proceedings with a buoyant approach to electro. Encouraging shouts of “come on” are filtered through disorienting FX, usher in sliding synth lines. As the track progresses, the frenzied synths increase in intensity before giving way to a skeletal drum beat.

On the second track Drowning, throbbing kick drums pair with skizzed-out hi-hats. The track’s wonky, rolling groove builds up towards a propelling synthetic percussion onslaught with unique sound design to boot.

The title track increases the intensity with skewed acidic pronouncements leading into a lolloping 168bpm beat, embellished with Pace’s characteristic vocal sample disfigurations.

Finally the EP settles on its most frenetic excursion, False Claims. Hiking the BPM up to 148, high velocity drums which nod to UK Funky guide the listener towards ecstatic fervor that is hinted at throughout the proceeding tracks.

Escape from the Club is available on all digital platforms from October 18th.

Our latest mix comes from @ORTRA - the musical project of Teia (she/they), a producer + DJ whose electronic music journey began in Zurich, where she co-organised parties + performed live as Lomission. Since living in Germany, Scotland and currently Berlin, she’s been carving out her own musical language in both original productions and playing as a DJ.

With ORTRA, Teia is in search for the odd, the quirky + the challenging. Known for bass-heavy, hyper-rhythmic + playful sets, ORTRA’s DJing keeps listeners on their toes, while gliding from danceable terrain into the experimental glitched-out hinterland. Their productions are often inspired + initiated by sounds encountered in their daily surroundings. For them, ORTRA is a new home for the outcast sounds, the unexpected, evoking weird atmospheres that keep things just a bit off-kilter. Since moving to Berlin, she’s bringing new material to life in the studio, to be released in the coming year...

“This mix feels like a restorative ritual to me, finding a way of dealing with the horrors of our times. Tumbling from fierce vocals and sub-pressure into break-madness and utterly jumpy-funky rhythms, especially the middle part invokes in me the feeling of snapping and slapping back at those in power, the image of breaking through the police barricades like an otherworldly ball of energy. Out of this chaos comes a release, a catharsis, softening into something more hopeful, a reassuring light at the end of the tunnel. To me, the final part carries something embracing and comforting, a sense that even in this mess we can somehow find a way to recharge for resistance and joint class struggle!” - ORTRA

Saturday at the Shopping Mall Soundscapes is a sound exploration of one of the most inconspicuous yet acoustically rich environments – the underground parking lot of a large shopping mall in Varna, Bulgaria. The album features binaural and stereo recordings shot in real-world settings, recreating the cold concrete spaces, echoing footsteps, frequency resonances of cars and the pulsating sound of ventilation.

The second part of the album takes the listener into the inner atmosphere of the shopping mall itself – a mix of human voices, escalators, soft background noise from shops and the natural reverberation of large spaces.

The binaural technique creates a realistic 3D environment, suitable for listening with headphones, relaxation, ASMR, audio archiving, sound design or inspiration for cinema and games.
