Clad inaugurates Grid Records, summoning an album compilation from close friends and affiliates, half French, half internationals. 'Improvisations' allows twelve different producers to explore and create in different directions that they're not typically known for.

Featuring E-Unity, Kevin Murf, C.Coiffure, NRLSD, Doline, MISH, Lastrack, Théo Muller, Solotape, Realitycheck, EXCPT and Troy Gunner, the record establishes a tweaked-out relationship with improvisational sound-design from the outset and throughout. Themes of hypnotism and experimental club-focused excursions are entrenched within the framework, with deadly blows of percussion, and stereo-imaging coexisting in a gorgeous realm of love-injected artistic expression.

A lot of music in the current climate can seem to be executed by overthinking and overpolishing. However, 'Improvisations' turns this on its head, providing a beautifully human feel across twelve, unique excerpts.

The title track 'LSD Superhero' opens the record with house lights up: glitching percs build around gasseous pads and trembling subs in a drawn out climax that finally collapses into a rolling technoid dembow beat at its midpoint.

Earth Trax’s ‘Afloat' EP follows his third LP for Bristol based Shall Not Fade. Earth Trax aka Bartosz touches on Trance, Techno and Deep spacey Electro. B's knack for building tension is infectious, here you see his production skills on full display each track has so much clarity you can feel the space it’s Broody and Beautiful and always delivered with a unique touch of class.

In the darkness they prepared themselves for the battle ahead. What little resources they had left they stockpiled in a safe place, guarded by those who were considered too weak to fight on the field. As soon as the sun reared its head on the horizon, the enemy would soon be on the move and time would be against them. Rumours had reached them that the opposition's army far outweighed their own but they had something to fight for that the others didn't; this battle was for everyone, it was for humanity. 

In June Brighton-based Scotsman Kutkh Jackdaw contributed a dark, industrial rhythmic cut to Medellin-based label Sonidos Subterraneos' compilation Estado De Golpe, a release aimed at raising awareness of and rejecting all forms of abuse, with profits being donated to social work causes. As a follow up to the track, Kutkh invited fellow Brighton producer Movement to put his own spin on it, and that he did, twisting the original into a heady 2-step remix that calls to mind artists and labels of the pre-dubstep era like El-B, Horsepower Productions and Digital Mystikz.

Break Dance

Logic1000 by Logic1000 is the fourth release on SUMAC, and the first by the reclusive Sydney born, Melbourne based producer Samantha Poulter. In her unique music making process, Logic1000 conjures concepts, genres, samples, rhythms and tempos that coalesce into a tough, stark sound that will appeal to working DJs and listeners alike. Her sound is a combination of UK-centric dance rhythms, vocal samples, hyper-accurate digital synths and disembodied textures. On this EP Logic1000 has worked extensively with long-time SUMAC affiliate COP ENVY, who has added his signature mix sheen, and SUMAC founder DJ Plead who appears on Na with his signature sounds.

On this ep Logic1000 presents a series of tools, sketches and experiments that run the gamut from UK funky and deep house, to abstract percussion jams and ambient experiments. Derrière is the record’s toughest moment; a snare heavy dance track featuring the coldest of one note bass lines and distorted leads. On Precision, Logic1000 channels her Indo-Indian heritage into an extremely playable, yet minimal drum work out, while The River is Tight sees Logic1000 working in more experimental territory. Baddie Part 2 is a heavy UK funky inspired tool with an emotive, super clean portamento lead. On Na Logic1000 and DJ Plead combine their signature sounds, creating a drum heavy jam that channels dancehall snares, Darbuka grooves and icey pads. In possibly the record’s most iconic moment, Logic1000 Please Forgive Me reworks RNB icon Deborah Cox into a slice of vocal house heaven featuring a perfectly disjunctive FM bass line.

The old temple stood tall amidst the towering trees of the mysterious jungle, wild animals moved quickly between the trees and chirping birds danced amidst the backdrop of a deep blue sky which overlooked it all. Walking towards the old ruin he began to wonder how much it had taken to build such a magnificent feat of architecture, how many workers had slaved away and did they ever see the glory of the end. It was a magnificent beast but not one worth death... Soon night would fall and it would be time to explore...

Bear Bones, Lay Low delivers an eclectic EP made up of wandering percussion, rogue soundscapes and weirdness for the newly launched label OK SPIRIT - an imprint run by N.I.B., Kilian Paterson and DJ Neewt. It features a club focussed remix from Dj Plead.

Borrowing its title from the language of writer Donna Haraway, multimedia artist Tristan Arp’s forthcoming EP, Oddkin engages with the imagined realities of non-human forms, from plants and insects to androids. Oscillating between playful and apocalyptic, ambient and polyrhythmic, Oddkin is a web of unlikely bonds hanging in the delicate balance of coexistence. Approaching each track as a different living creature or sentient form, Tristan Arp leans into animated sound design and asymmetrical rhythms for worldbuilding.

The EP’s cover art features an original painting made by Tristan Arp while finishing the record in his home in Mexico City in quarantine during 2020. Oddkin will be released on Tristan Arp’s Human Pitch label, run in collaboration with Simisea, on March 19th.
