- Ḥadīth #10: The Answered Supplication
- Explanation of Shaykh al-‘Uthaymīn (رحمه الله).
- The meaning of the word طيّب (ṭayyib) when it is attributed to Allāh.

Text of the ḥadīth:

عن [أبي هريرةَ] رَضِي اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: قالَ رسولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "إِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى طَيِّبٌ لاَ يَقْبَلُ إِلاَّ طَيِّبًا، وإِنَّ اللهَ أَمَرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِمَا أَمَرَ بِهِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ، فَقَالَ تَعَالَى: <<يَأَيُّهَا الرُّسُلُ كُلُواْ مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَاعْمَلُوا صَالِحًا>>، وَقَالَ تَعَالَى: <<يَأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُلُوا مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ مَا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ>>. ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ الرَّجُلَ يُطِيلُ السَّفَرَ أَشْعَثَ أَغْبَرَ، يَمُدُّ يَدَيْهِ إِلَى السَّماءِ يا رَبُّ.. يا رَبُّ، وَمَطْعَمُهُ حَرَامٌ، وَمَشْرَبُهُ حَرَامِ، وَمَلْبَسُهُ حَرَامٌ، وَغُذِّيَ بِالْحَرَامَ، فَأَنَّى يُسْتَجَابُ لَهُ؟" رواه مسلمٌ

From Abū Hurayrah (رضى الله عنه) who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, "Verily Allāh is Ṭayyib (good, pure) and does not accept but that which is ṭayyib, and Allāh commanded the believers with that which He commanded the Messengers, so He, the Exalted said, ‘O Messengers, eat of the good and wholesome and work righteous deeds’, and the Exalted said, ‘O you who believe, eat of the good and wholesome things we have provided you with.’ Then he mentioned (the case) of a man on a long journey with dishevelled hair, covered with dust, raising his hands to the sky, (saying), 'O Lord, O Lord...' yet his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothing is unlawful and his nourishment is unlawful, so how will he be answered?" [02/06/2025] 31 Explanation of the Three Principles by Abu Idrees. 

– Text: The evidence for appealing for aid and assistance (Al-Isti’ānah) is the saying of Allah, the Most High: 
O Allah, You alone we worship and You alone we appeal for aid
– And in the Hadith there occurs:
If you seek help, then seek the help of Allah.
– Explanation of Shaykh Ubaid Al Jabiri:
– The two categories of Isti’ānah with explanation of its conditions.
– Beautiful benefit derived from the Ayah: O Allah, You alone we worship and You alone we appeal for aid.
– Explanation of Shaykh Fawzān:
– Examples of the permissible means of seeking aid from the creation.
– Encouragement to aid your brother as Allah aids His slave so long as he aids his brother.
– Examples of the impermissible means of seeking aid from the creation.

31 Explanation of the Three Principles by Abu Idrees

Covered in this lesson:

- Question 55. How many ways or types of indications are there that point to the Names of Allāh? – and its answer.
- Question 56. What is an example of that (i.e. His Names and what they indicate)? – and its answer.
Notes and points of benefit:

- These two questions enter into a very important topic with great significance, in understanding the Names and Attributes of Allāh. Through this one will see the misguidance of Ahlul-Kalām, and what Allāh can be described with and what He cannot be described with.

- Regarding Q55, the answer of Shaykh Hāfidh Al-Hakamī’s (رحمه الله) which mentions three types/categories:

1) mutābaqah (corresponding, agreement, conformity) – which points to the Essence of Allāh.
2) tadammun -by way of inclusion.
3) iltizām – by way of necessitation.

- Given this is a technical discussion, the example of the word ‘house’ was provided and elaborated upon to assist in understanding and comprehending this subject matter.

- It is futile that the word Ar-Rahīm points to a being without the attribute of mercy. Why have all these Names, do they not point to attributes? This is the way of the Mu’tazilah who affirm the Names but hold there is no attribute behind them, which is futile.

- There is a distinction between Allāh having a Name and the creation having a name e.g. Hakīm – Allāh has this attribute but the creation may not even though someone may be named that name, a person named Hakīm might actually be jāhil.

- The explanation of Shaykh ‘Uthaimīn (رحمه الله).

- Regarding Q56, the answer of Shaykh Hāfidh Al-Hakamī’s (رحمه الله) where the example of the Names Ar-Rahmān (The Most Merciful) and Ar-Rahīm (The Bestower of Mercy) are provided and how the three types/categories are applied to these two Names, which is also the case with all the rest of the Names of Allāh.

In advising a new Muslim brother whose mother is unhappy and angry with his acceptance and practice of Islam, Ustaadh Uwais at-Taweel (may Allaah preserve him) discusses the following points:

- The importance of seeking knowledge and studying the religion of Islam, strictly based on the Qur’aan & Sunnah
- No obedience to the creation in disobedience to Allaah
