[11/07/2025] The Importance of Knowledge - By Abu Zayd Khālid حفظه الله. Khuṭbah at Masjid Salafi, Small Heath, Birmingham, UK.

Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah:

- Benefits from a khutbah by Shaykh Muhammad b. Sālih al-‘Uthaymīn (رحمه الله) on the importance of seeking knowledge. 

- The meaning of basīrah, and how it is achieved. 

- Consistency upon seeking knowledge of the Book of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) and Sunnah of the Messenger ﷺ. 

- A hadīth that is sufficient for us to recognise the virtue of seeking knowledge.

- Aiding one another upon establishing the truth.

- Four traits that protect a person from loss, and what they entail. 

- “You are the best nation ever raised up for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allāh.” [Sūrah Āli ‘Imrān 3:110]

- How unity and victory is achieved. 

- The obligation of being united, and the basis of this unity. 

- Proof from the Qur’ān and Sunnah regarding the consequence of not enjoining the good and forbidding the evil. 

- A warning against being from those who hide the truth. 

- The example of the noble scholar ash-Shaykh al-Muḥaddith Rabī’ b. Hādī al-Madkhalī (رحمه الله) who carried out the obligation of calling to unity amongst the Muslims and refuting evil and its people.

- Giving importance to jihād in the path of Allāh and striving to elevate Tawhīd.

- Guiding those who have erred back to the Book of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى), Sunnah of the Messenger ﷺ and understanding of the rightly guided caliphs and imāms. 

- His second wasiyah, the year it was written, and who the Shaykh requested to write and spread it.

- Fearing Allāh as He should be feared, collectively holding fast to the Rope of Allāh and not dividing.

- Wherein lies happiness in this life and the hereafter.

- The outcome of division and discord.

- The only means of attaining unity.

- Judging ourselves by what we learned from our Shaykh. 

- The necessity of sincerity and truthfulness.

- Exerting effort in reforming and rectifying the state of the Muslims. 

- Following the example of Shaykh Rabī’ in being humble, truthful and not wanting the dunyā or position. 

- Servicing and calling to the Qur’ān and Sunnah, not ourselves.

- The humility of the major scholars. 

- The Shaykh’s advice to the students of knowledge and scholars regarding guiding the ummah back to the teachings of the Book and Sunnah upon the understanding of the Salaf as-Sālih. 

- A warning against differing and following desires.

- The reason this ummah is superior to other nations. 

- The passing away of the righteous, and a description of those who will remain. 

- That which is imperative upon the bearers of knowledge.

- Humbling ourselves to the judgement of Allāh and His Messenger ﷺ.

- His advice to Shaykh Rabī’ to refute everyone who opposes the truth and the Sunnah.

- Three examples of letters Shaykh Ibn Bāz sent to Shaykh Rabī’ (رحمهم الله)

- The manner in which he referred to himself, and how he addressed Shaykh Rabī’. 

- A letter he sent in 1413 asking the Shaykh to send him a copy of the refutation he wrote against Abul-A’lā al-Mawdūdī.

- A letter he sent in 1415 asking the Shaykh to review some documents in order to ascertain the state of an individual. 

- A reminder that it is not needed for you to put yourself forward; Allāh raises whom He wills. 

- Another letter Shaykh Ibn Bāz sent to Shaykh Rabī’ in 1415 asking him to refute Nazīh Hammād who spoke about the Sifāt of Allāh.

- His instruction to Shaykh Rabī’ to refute and rectify the mistakes of anyone who errs, even himself (i.e Shaykh Ibn Bāz).

- The great position Shaykh Rabī’ had with Shaykh Ibn Bāz.

- An example of how Allāh raises whom He wills: Abū Talhah Dāwūd Burbank (رحمه الله), who was sincere, humble, and fled from the limelight.
