London record shop and label Phonica Records launches new sub label Phonica AM. Curated by staff member and DJ Luther Vine, the label will provide a home for a new take on 90's inspired ‘proper’ tech house, and music within this ball park. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

To kick start this new label, Luther approached the mysterious duo Voodoos and Taboos to release 'If We Were' EP. So far, the two producers have only released EPs and LPs on their own record label Voodoos And Taboos Records, and made few appearances on compilations. We don't know a lot about them - not even their face - but the music speak for itself. "I was blown away by the music after discovering their production through stocking their first two releases," said Luther. Indeed, it is not until he heard their tunes that he took the decision to start a new Phonica imprint. "With all due respect to some of the music being released at the moment, there seems to be an over saturation with this rehashed 90s Prog House resurgence... And it was very refreshing to hear and be able to release this rather original EP from Voodoos and Taboos." 'The A1 launches the EP with an esoteric slice of breakbeat from CLJL. Punchy breaks and ethereal echoed tones ghost between the beats and set the scene for an introvertive introduction. Already immersed in a forest of cosmic energy, the mesmeric electro-infused bass synth blends into the action with maximum effect. Intense, yet tantalisingly melodic. The second half of the b-line evolves as syncopatic droplets of acidic frequencies and celestial rhythms blast 'System Research' into orbit.
