Hidden-by-the-Wall is a new soundwork by :zoviet*france: commissioned by Green Croft Arts as part of its Collision and Conflict project.

Collision and Conflict is a GPS-triggered geolocated sound walk, presented through the Echoes phone app, that follows a circular route between Walltown and Green Croft in Northumberland, UK. The route runs alongside and close by Hadrian's Wall, a vast Roman defensive fortification that runs east/west across northern England, marking the northwestern frontier of the Roman empire. While following the route, walkers can listen to each of the 14 new music, sound and spoken word Collision and Conflict compositions at the locations to which they've been allocated along the way. Hidden-by-the-Wall can be found along a stretch of open country between Walltown and Thirlwall, a high point from which the distant Scottish borders to the north and the North Pennines to the south can be seen.

In devising Hidden-by-the-Wall we set out to capture hidden and unnoticed sounds in the vicinity and recreate lost sounds that would have been heard decades ago but have now gone forever. The original field recordings that form the hidden and unnoticed sounds are here in this playlist. More about each track can be found in the description on its page.

My father's hometown is an area with a lot of snow, and I spent some time there in the winter when I was a child.
It was then that I first experienced the feeling of silence when it snowed.

That sense of silence as I walked through the falling snow may have been the catalyst for my current work in ambient music.

This music is dedicated to those snowy, beloved winter nights.

Grand format pour la Grande Boucle ! Alors que le Tour de France 2022 bat son plein, nous vous proposons cette semaine une chronique de la Rive spéciale de près de deux heures consacrée au cyclisme. A cette occasion, comme lors de la chronique #24 dédiée au rugby, nous avons le plaisir d'accueillir plusieurs intervenants : Yann Vallerie de Breizh Info,  Antony Bonamy, directeur des éditions Culture et Racines, Virgile, un fidèle camarade flamand, et Georges Feltin-Tracol, qu’on ne présente plus à nos auditeurs. 
Tous nous racontent leur histoire d'amour avec le cyclisme et nous présentent quelques faits marquants. La question du dopage n'est pas élucidée est et même traitée avec un point de vue non conforme.

One of my usual software based "compositions" consisting of a couple of VSTi and VST effects, mainly Adaptiverb and MGranularMB but also featuring Pro-R and Timeless, as always, of course.

DAW used was Studio One 3.5 installed on my recently acquired Surface Pro laptop. I wanted to see what this little thing could do and I have to say that I am impressed. In order to keep CPU usage down to a minimum the VSTi instances were rendered once I was happy with a particular track and then a new VSTi would be inserted. Sounds a pain but this method suits my way of working for this kind of stuff which is more effects centred.

Nothing special, but I wanted to share :-)

« Il peignit le naufrage de la France, ce radeau sans espoir, où elle flottait ; faisant signe aux vagues, au vide, ne voyant nul secours… c’est la France elle-même c’est notre société tout entière qu’il embarqua sur ce radeau de la méduse… image si cruellement vraie que l’orignal refusa de la reconnaitre »  Nous connaissons tous le célèbre tableau du peintre Géricault mais connaissons-nous vraiment  la tragédie qui a inspiré cette œuvre colossale ? C’est l’histoire d’un drame effroyable qui signe l’échec d’une expédition militaire. L’œuvre de Géricault , présentée au Salon le 25 août 1819, se situe au croisement du scandale esthétique et politique. La critique est divisée, mais le tableau fait grand bruit. Il raconte les suites du naufrage de la frégate : La Méduse, survenue trois ans auparavant, le 2 juillet 1816. A ce naufrage, survit un radeau, qui va se perdre sur les flots pendant plusieurs jours, trimbalant les rescapés de la frégate entre la mort et la folie. Storiavoce vous emmène à l’envers du tableau avec Dominique Le Brun, spécialiste de l’histoire de la Marine. Il est interrogé par Maru-Gwen Caricgon. 

L'invité: Dominique Le Brun est journaliste historique et spécialiste de l’univers maritime. Il est lui-même navigateur depuis sa tendre enfance et membre des écrivains de la Marine. Dominique Le Brun a écrit de très nombreux ouvrages de références (roman, essai, albums…) sur l’histoire de la navigation et l’espace marin. Il vient de publier : La Méduse, les dessous d’un naufrage dans lequel il donne la parole à six survivants de ce célèbre drame.
