Wonderwheel Recordings presents a debut album by Yemanjo that blends Afro rhythms and organic sounds to create a spellbinding release with multicultural influences.

Yemanjo is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who uses his talents to produce tracks that range from downtempo electronic to upbeat Afro house, and this 10-track release showcases the full range of his talents.

Ben Harris aka Yemanjo is an American artist who now lives in Guatemala. From a young age, he was fascinated by the upbeat energy and vibrant rhythms of music from Africa and Latin America. Later in life, he travelled to these parts of the world to experience the culture first hand. He was inspired by his travels and started creating music that fused electronic sounds from his home scene in California with the organic instruments of Africa and Latin America.

After developing his own unique production style, Yemanjo was born in 2018, and since then he has built up an impressive back catalogue including releases on highly respected record labels such as Cafe De Anatolia, trndmsk, Cosmic Awakenings, and Camel Riders.

Not only does the release feature Ben Harris playing the trumpet and other instruments, the album also features collaborations with guest singers and musicians from Mali, Colombia, Argentina, Hungary and beyond.

The album's title track "La Misma Fuente" opens the release with an enchanting groove that sets the scene with Yemanjo's own harmonised Spanish vocals, and flowing percussion underpinned by an upbeat bassline.

Track two, "Juru Fô" is an Afro house track featuring the majestic vocal tones of Malian vocalist Mariam Koné.

"Bululú" is third on the release, and it's an instrumental which lifts the energy with its fast-paced rhythms and dramatic vocal stabs that add to the jackin' energy of the groove.

"Baobab" has twinkling Ngoni melodies, which is a traditional string instrument, complemented by flutters of trumpet and earthy percussion.

"Mar Mar Mar" has a flamenco influence with upbeat guitar chords, castanet rhythms and mesmerising Spanish vocals by Freddy Velasquez that intertwine with uplifting trumpet melodies.

"Janfa" sees the return of vocalist Mariam Koné who adds her sensual tones to a downtempo groove with reggae influence.

"Guardianes" is a jovial track with soothing Spanish vocals and trippy synths that are fuelled by intricate guitar melody and Afro percussion rhythms.

Seventh on the release, "Csillagvirág" features Medicina Band and its a haunting ballad with mournful trumpets and Latin percussion.

The penultimate track, "Suena La Quena," lifts the energy for a feel-good finish with a soaring Andean flute and psychedelic atmospherics.

"Bridge to Bamako" closes the release with a trip hop groove that shows Yemanjo's full range of styles and provides an epic ending to this stunning album.

Folktronica is a style that was born as a seed sent by Mother Earth and reproduced around the world like flowers, being the musicians it's bees. From Latin America they made their way to the cities like the green arms of the Amazon, but with charangos, flutes and synthesizers, until reaching the most remote places of the Earth as a whole new voice in electronic music.

With the mission to find the precious balance between the world of traditions and technology, plus a touch of mystery and modernity, folktronica positioned itself as a genre in alternative websites such as Bandcamp and Soundcloud, and then became massive in Youtube and Spotify, which were filled with artists, fans and music that spread the style from Latin America to the world, finding then each region of the world its own interpretation of this mixture of ancient sounds and contemporary technology.

Today, in the midst of a chaotic present in humanity and in the face of a Western music industry focused on the purely commercial, the beauty and depth of this ¨mestizo¨ movement that speaks of Mother Earth, folkloric traditions, ancestral rhythms and themes of the spirit is often overlooked, meanwhile it keeps exploring with the highest musical technology and forming itself as a new great world underground movement. Today Ritmos del Sur undertakes a project to share, strengthen and value these musical ideas that already inhabit the whole world, with flavors that from Latin America also pass through Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and much more. ¨This is Folktronica¨ is an eclectic compilation of 14 songs that are immersed in this genre, a spiritual nectar that we hope will bring you peace, joy and lots of rhythm to cheer your body and soul.

This project was developed by Ritmos del Sur, with the sponsorship of Cosmovision Records, with its beautiful artwork designed by Choque and a sound exquisitely Mastered by Matías Parisi, both from Argentina and compiled by  El Extravagante and Don Mescal.

Reo Matsumoto is a celebrated Producer, HandPan Player, Beat Boxer, and Percussionist. His musical journey began in 2005 as a Human Beat Boxer, where his talent quickly shone through, earning him the title of BeatBox Japan Champion. This victory propelled him onto the global stage, where he competed in the World BeatBox Championship.

In 2012, Reo co-founded “Matsumoto Zoku,” a dynamic duo that fuses beat boxing, hand pan, and didgeridoo. 

The titled track, "Nico," invites listeners into an immersive auditory experience. Reo's masterful handpan performance, interwoven with Japanese influences, creates an organic dynamic flow. The melodies are fluid and natural, evoking images of serene landscapes and ancient traditions. Each note is a testament to Reo’s skill, offering a meditative and introspective journey through sound.

With "Curio," Reo Matsumoto ventures into uncharted territory. This track pulses with a mystical jungle beatbox style, featuring the deep, resonant tones of the didgeridoo. The rhythm is primal and hypnotic, transporting listeners to the heart of an enigmatic, verdant jungle. The interplay between the beatbox and didgeridoo creates a rich, textured soundscape that is both exhilarating and otherworldly.

The "Nico EP" is more than just music; it’s an exploration of diverse sonic landscapes, reflecting Reo Matsumoto's profound connection to his roots and his journey through global musical traditions. This EP is a testament to Reo's ability to blend different genres and instruments into a harmonious and captivating whole, making it a must-listen for those who seek a transcendent musical experience.
