Known for his trusted label Die Orakel, programming the dancefloor at Offenbach institution Robert Johnson and heading up EOS radio, Oliver Hafenbauer is no stranger to the game. 

For the latest instalment of Off-Kilter, he presents us with an uncompromising mix that spans a multitude of genres; dance music influenced but sitting on the fringes, woven intricately together - dark and suspenseful yet light and hypnotic. Downtempo, house, techno, cosmic and unruly, spiralling sounds and cycles of rhythm overlapping and phasing in time.

Oliver Hafenbauer is an experienced and versatile DJ with a long-standing history of being one of the key figures in the local club scene and beyond. 

Stylistically motivated to what is beat-driven and highly danceable, he has the perfect sensitivity for the contexts he is involved with. Oliver set his priorities differently a while ago when he hung up a potential career in architecture and decided to go for the music after having DJed for years and promoted his party series. Oliver’s steady commitment to Offenbach’s vastly respected venue has brought him wide recognition: For over a decade, he functioned as music director of Robert Johnson and managed the associated label of the same name. Working behind the scenes allows not only different perspectives but enables many alliances. Rather than producing as a strategy, he consequently fosters talent on his imprint Die Orakel, where he releases music positively undetermined between dance and ambient by artists like upsammy, Reptant, or Roman Flügel. 

Oliver has been co-founder of the Frankfurt-based online radio station EOS Radio since 2021. Last but not least, his approach to playing music as a conceptual act within diverse networks of artists and audiences is what makes of him an allrounder of many qualities.

From the subtle, atmospheric sounds of the SUED camp, through Jamal Moss’ inimitable take on house, the experimentalism of 2562, Emeralds & Aaron Dilloway, arresting oddities from MGUN and Ruth White to propulsive techno from the likes of Planetary Assault Systems and Karenn, Truancy Volume 100 is full of special moments and its scope includes some of the most interesting music out there. “I wanted to record something cohesive from start to finish whilst still allowing myself to draw from a relatively broad pool of music,” Ben says. “As with my contribution to Radio 1’s Essential Mix last year, I was hoping to do something a bit more interesting structurally than just steadily building up the intensity and the tempo of the mix over the course of two hours – as a result these two mixes don’t exactly reflect what you might expect to hear from me in most club situations or at festivals. There’s an emphasis on tracks which shift the energy and momentum when they’re played during a DJ set and, relatedly, I wanted to try and include more experimental music in a way that didn’t seem tokenistic or throwaway.”

A devoted music enthusiast and integral member of Washington, DC’s dance music community, DJ Drink Water seeks to become a master in sonic versatility. Starting his DJ career in 2019, he has shared bills with top local acts like Juana, Soso Tharpa, and Black Rave Culture, as well as renowned DJs such as Kush Jones, DJ Voices, and Physical Therapy. DJ Drink Water has opened for Physical Therapy, Vladimir Ivkovic, Dauwd, and Doctor Jeep in the DMV area and performed b2b sessions with soso tharpa, Babypuff, yuzhuuu, and Jacq Jill. He has also DJ’d for event series such as 140+/FWB, Formula, Black Techno Matters, and Hast du Feuer. His sets, characterized by skill and passion, aim to create meaningful connections and memorable moments on the dancefloor, blending driving rhythmic rollers with ethereal vocal escapes. In 2022, he founded the DC-based party DOJO, CASINO, currently on hiatus, to celebrate local talent and stylistic diversity. This event featured lineups including Juana, Baronhawk Poitier, Sami, and Ari Goldman. DJ Drink Water also hosts a monthly Eaton Radio show, "WAVs," featuring collaborations with DJs like James Bangura, Ovid, Artemis.105, and Taylor Trostle. His musical fluidity and eclecticism appeal to techno devotees, seasoned international DJs, crate diggers, and dancefloor seekers alike, revealing an artist fully in tune with his craft.
