Just in case you have been living under a rock for the last few years you might have missed the rise of Loa Szala as one of the most in demand selectors in the UK. Her residency for Alien Communications has allowed her to rally spread her wings musically and in the process, she has shared the decks with plethora of names. The wide range of sounds that she can call upon is quite staggering and this has led her to being billed alongside the likes of Ryan Elliot, Raresh, Janeret, Todd Terje and of course her blossoming headlining schedule.

2022 was a great year for Loa as she made an imapct on several 2023 lists of artists to watch including our own. As you will have spotted by now she has come out the blocks quickly and is in the process of building up an exciting breakout year. Having already joined the picnic booking agency she already has dates in the diary at Gottwood, Butik Festival, Pleasure in Edinburgh and the hotly tipped ID party alongside a bevy of girls in Barcelona. We are thrilled to welcome Loa to our InSession series where she flexes that musical knowledge in a myriad of ways and directions. If you get the chance to catch this rising star grab it with both hands and enjoy the journey.

This recording has transported us right back to Tisno where Francesco played until sunrise for his long-awaited return to Dimensions. Those that were with us know how special this set was, and now, for the first time those that weren't can also enjoy a slice of the magic.

Francesco Del Garda - Live at Dimesions 2022

Quest is one of those new school selectors who have taken the art of crate digging to an all-new level. Italian-born, Berlin-based but having spent time in London working at the legendary Vinyl Pimp, he has long been mining the depths of everything from UKG to outré techno, Italian hip hop to long-lost house. Importantly, he uses those sounds to tell his own stories, often with an air of mystery and intrigue that plays out like an adventure into the unknown. 

Many mixes follow a traditional arc of increasing energy levels but in this week's podcast, Quest plays with those expectations to build up and then pull back, threading together minimal rhythms then raw and crunchy wave sounds. Twisted electronics lead into celestial acid and the smooth and seductive sits next to the dark and edgy. It's a low-key, low-lit selection that draws from mutant strains of house, techno and electro that are both futurist and dystopian. Quest might be his moniker, but it is also a perfect description of his mission.

If you come across an italian in our scene anywhere in the world it wouldn't be uncommon for them to say "I grew up with mixed tapes from Francesco Farfa".  
Holding a somewhat legendary status in his home country italy and beyond Francesco stands as one of these 90s DJs we will forever cherish. I always say that, even when I have my back to the desk and someone of this calibre steps in I think: Professional djing just stepped into that booth, you feel it by the levels - to start with - leading to an enviable and absolutely seamlessly mixing technique to a track selection so well structured it makes your jaw drop.  Whether you see him solo or on b2bs with say, Francesco Del Garda and many others, he would never disappoint 

This is exactly what happened on the May Bank Holiday weekend when Francesco played for Alien Communications. A two hour journey that made us all dance like there was no tomorrow. 

Francesco stands to what I want the representation of the art of Djing to be about, respectfully and humbly. This is very much why I wanted to put this recording out here in the toi toi mix series.  Moments lived in this dancefloor with some of my favourite people: my dear tag team for that weekend (you know who you are), L&L family, Judy Griffiths, Matteo Manzini and of course the dear promoters and crowd from Alien Communications.
