Ｅｎ[ｃａｐｓｕｌａ] 夢幻 (✁ ｅ ｄ ｉ ｔ)

Pilu is Indian evergreen raga, which uses all the chromatic notes, which all the notes have visitation rights. Pilu raga is performed late afternoon before sunset.

Mishra is a word from Sanskrit that means mixed, which allows tremendous scope for the artist to bring in melodic lines from other ragas. Mishra Pilu raga is full of devotion and piety by expressing the mesmerizing mix of emotions, which are an eternal source for human emotions: joy and sadness, longing, tenderness.

My intention was to create slow motion changes, which on the one hand are based on very strict patterns, and on the other hand – can hardly be noticeable.

The work was commissioned by the “The Night With…” with support from Creative Scotland and PRS foundation in 2021/2022.

Silent Rooms | Fogcore | Silent Hill Inspired Ambience

Asāvāri is the North Indian raga performed in the late morning hours, which evokes the moods for anguish, love and melancholy.

I have used textile pattern, based on various repetitions, which could be related to time perception in Indian cosmology. 

According to Indian philosophical tradition, time is cyclical, but not in terms of different Western interpretations. Indian cyclic time doesn’t involve a mechanical repetition of particular. Even cycles are the same in type, but they are not the same in detail.

In order to achieve it, each performer has been encouraged to improvise by changing some details within the framework of the cyclical time. Music unfolds in a process of continuous development and it constantly renewed in performance of cycle inevitably follows cycle.

The World Premiere was performed by Ensemble I’Itineraire: Julie Brunet-Jailly, (flute), Juliette Adam (clarinet), Lucia Peralta (viola) and Manasonics: Benoit Delbecq (piano) and Steve Arguelles (percussions) at Sonic Art Research Centre, on 25 November, Belfast, the Northern Ireland, in 2023.

The work was commissioned by the du Ministère de la Culture/Direction régionale des affaires culturelles d’Île-de-France in 2023.

Asavari

In Sanskrit language, Azaya has many different meanings symbolizing various connotations, for example: point, will, thought, intention, meaning, property, fortune, fate, soul and etc.
The structure of Azaya is based on a textile weave, which was mapped from the predator drone engine.
The piece develops from the bumblebee sounds, followed by low rumbling sounds, which transform into longer and deeper glissando. Throughout the piece, dynamics grows from ppp to ff until motives weave into monolith soundscape. At the same
time, harmony and tonal range expands developing into tutti of frightening buzzing noise.
The work was commissioned by the Lithuanian contemporary music festival Muzikos Ruduo and Lithuanian Composers’ Union. The piece was premiered by saxophone quartet Quasar (Soprano saxophone – Marie-Chantal Leclair, Alto saxophone – Mathieu Leclair, Tenor Saxophone André Leroux, Barytone saxophone – Jean-Marc Bouchard) on 9 October, at Energy and Technology Museum, in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 2024.

Azaya

In Sanskrit, ‘Prakanda’ is the trunk of a tree, from its root to its branches. Additionally, it can mean ‘excellent’, ‘prominent’, ‘superior’ and ‘transcendent’.

I explored ideas about trees by listening to various artists’ recordings using contact microphones inside the trees. I also spent hours walking in ancient woodlands, listening and observing them. But I couldn’t find what I wanted until, by accident, I discovered the most beautiful images of tree-rings. They reminded me of the surface of a desert, the ocean, the patterns of water; the references might be endless. 

Each tree-ring has its own structure, form and appearance and they became my main source of inspiration. In the music I have mapped these images into many sonic patterns, the music’s structure based on independent melodic lines, each with its own time, pitch, timbre and articulation.

The work was commissioned by the Lithuanian Association LATGA, by Music Authors Fund in 2025.

The piece was premiered by ensemble Kwartludium (Poland): Dagna Sadkowska (violin), Piotr Nowicki (piano), Michal Gorczynski (bass clarinet), and Pawel Nowicki (percussion) at International Contemporary Music festival Gaida, on 26th October, Vilnius, Lithuania, 2025.

Pilipinas is a response to a poem of the same name written in Tagalog by the young Marc Jardin from All Hallows Catholic College. I liked the way his poem touched on an innocent love of one’s country, its natural beauty and spirit, while also not shying away from the darker aspects of its history, and hoped that my piece could capture those contrasts.
