グルーヴィな歌声と独創性に満ちた楽曲で、ジャンルを選ばず音楽ファンを魅了してきたbirdの10枚目のアルバム｢Lush｣が完成した。
｢アルバムを作っているうちに、音と言葉が溢れ出て来るイメージが、瑞々しく、とても豊かな実りのよう（Lushの意味）だったのでLushとしました。｣。
前作｢9｣はbirdのライブには欠かせない錚々たるミュージシャン達（NB4）と共に録音されたが、｢Lush｣は、冨田恵一（冨田ラボ）とエンジニアリングも含め、二人だけで創られた。
｢今回は初心に戻って歌うことと、歌詞を書くことに集中したかったです。冨田さんに二人だけでアルバムを作ってみたいとお願いしました。｣と明かす。
｢冨田さんが曲を送ってくれて、歌詞を書いて仮歌を入れてまた冨田さんに送ったり、
曲によっては先に歌詞を書いて、冨田さんに送って曲を作ってもらったりしながら実際の歌入れに入っていきました。｣と、年間100本近くのライブを行いながらの、一年以上に渡ったレコーディングを振り返る。

birdが思う冨田恵一の魅力は｢どんなタイプの音楽でも冨田さんが作るものは、エレガント、しなやかさを感じられて素敵だなあと思います。コードがかっこよくて、コーラスの音の積み方が冨田さんならでは！な感じで。新旧ジャンルを問わず、いろんな音楽を常に聞いてそれを作品に取り入れチャレンジされている姿勢も魅力です。｣

10曲目｢道｣以外は全て初出作品。狙い通り作詞に集中した。birdの歌詞世界は独特で｢詞｣ではなく｢詩｣だと思う人も多いが、敢えて｢今作は、音と言葉がいい関係性になるよう、心がけました。そういう意味ではやっぱり歌詞ですね。｣と言い切る。
また、音楽的ヴァリエーションが幅広いこのアルバムでも、各々の楽曲を咀嚼したbirdの歌声もさらに昇華している。｢私は歌を歌うことが、大好きなんだなあということをしみじみ感じました。歌というものは、奥深く、まだまだ知らないことだらけな感じがしています。｣と。｢これからも自分にとって新しいなと思うことは恐れずにチャレンジしていきたいです。｣と続ける。

最後に唐突に尋ねた。デビューして16年。自分自身が思う“「bird」らしさ”って 何だと思いますか？｢デビューした頃は、何だろう？？と悩んだこともありましたが、今は私が歌えばそうなると思っています。｣　常に高きを仰ぎ、精進と謙遜と自信を携えながら、ゆっくりとしたbirdの歩幅で歩み続ける今後が楽しみである。

『Lush』制作はほぼ1年前にはスタートしていました–最初に作った曲「M_1」は「Wake Up」となり6曲目に収録。そして残り9曲の制作は2015年春に再開されました。タイトル曲「Lush」からです。長い中断期間に特別な意味はありませんが、良き中断でしたね。ここ数年、音楽自体は楽しく、そして著しく発展しています–お気づきではない方もいらっしゃるでしょうが、間違いなくそういう時期なのです。そんなタイミングでの中断は、受けた刺激の消化、血肉化、そしてまた新たな刺激と、良い事尽くめでした。「いまは新譜が面白い」–そんなことを方々で言っていますが、この『Lush』もそんな面白い新譜の1枚です。
