In our second episode, our host and Partnership Coordinator, Mishma Mukith, sits down with Dr. Russell Cobb, an Associate Professor in Modern Languages and Cultural Studies, and the 2020-2021 recipient of the CSL Instructor Award. Russell teaches Intro to Latin American Studies (LA ST 210) with an optional CSL component, often partnering with media-based organizations like CJSR. We welcome our long-time friend, and first-time CSL instructor, Dr. Winta Ghidei to this episode of Sounds of CSL. Winta Ghidei is a mom to a 4-yr old boy and an Eritrean immigrant. She has a PhD in Public Health from the University of Alberta in which her doctoral research examined the intersecting factors conducive to intimate partner violence, including social inequities and oppression, colonization and power imbalances, along with gender and racial biases. She has been involved with CSL in various capacities since 2017, including as a TA for CSL 100, and now as a CSL 200 instructor.

In this episode of Sounds of CSL, our Director, David Peacock sits down with Dr. Nykkie Lugosi-Schimpf, an Assistant Professor with the Faculty of Native Studies. Nykkie teaches NS 442 - Colonialism and the Criminal Justice System with a CSL component. Partnering with The Learning Club, students in NS 442 create packages for people who are incarcerated. Tune into the episode to learn more about how and why Nykkie integrates CSL into her course.

In this episode of Sounds of CSL, we speak with Ann De Leon from MLCS within the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta. Ann incorporates CSL into her courses, such as SPAN 441: Reading Colonial Culture. For this class, CSL partnered Ann's students with University of Alberta Library to decipher archived documents and translate them into Spanish.

In this episode of Sounds of CSL, David Peacock chats with Dr. Tiana Rust. Tiana has incorporated CSL in her PSYCH 329 - Adult Development and Aging class for 10 years! In this course, Tiana teaches students that aging has socio-cultural aspects and aims to dispel the myths about aging. Partnered with various nursing homes and senior community groups, CSL students get the opportunity to interact with older adults.
