This remake took a couple of tries to get right. The original XM competed in the multichannel compo at The Party 1995. It ended up in 16:th place which I felt pretty good about, given that the mix was absolute mooseshit.

Plenty of things ended up on the shop floor for this one. The original drums were all room and no slap. The guitar sample I stole from Zodiak (Hej, Erik!) had to be axed, as did the obscure wah wah guitar sample I forgot the source of. Most significantly, though, that pretty psyched sax solo had to go, as it was nicked from some The Roots live bootleg, so I decided to hand the reins over to the keyboards for this one. When in doubt, always bet on a hardsync solo.

The part at 3:11 is actually a decent enough ending, but I really didn't feel like wrapping it up. Three-minute songs honestly feel too short these days, so I threw in a return of the main motif with this meandering kinda "just play what you want, this is the fadeout anyway" part that was just fantastic to make. Always loved a good jam.

Somewhere in the sea of darkness, the remnants of the S3M-32 interstellar reconnaissance rocket glittered in hyperspace. There had been the scream of the alarm, the tearing of metal, and then the explosion—the four rookie scouts, secure in their emergency pods, had been ripped from the chaos of the ruined ship and scattered like light through a prism.

In time, Headquarters recovered the scouts’ reports, written and murmured into the pod’s computer banks in the hopes that someday someone might find them. The distant capsules were only found thanks to the tracer module in each ship…

Since lately it seems I'm unable to stop working on gaming-related projects, here's a little treat for all of you :3 

I helped a couple of friends in scoring a little game they are working on for a competition, and been asked to go for an NES/Famicom style. I had so much fun working on this project since it allowed me to test myself with various limitations and the need to work with short compositions and simple yet effective melodies. 
I really hope you'll appreciate what I pulled out for it :) The game is now entering the private testing phase, but you can already download this soundtrack for free!

I started writing this song over a year ago.  I had almost finished it and it was turning into one of my favorite pieces I've ever composed when a file corruption cost me about 10 hours of work on it.  I was heartbroken and discouraged, and tried sporadically over the next many months to replace what had been lost and finish the track. I only recently REALLY cracked at it after hearing about the Vol. 7 submission and finally finished it up the night before the deadline.
