*DIRCO and Unisa to host a G20 Townhall Engagement in Durban*

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), in collaboration with the University of South Africa (Unisa) and the University of KwaZulu-Natal, will host a G20 Townhall Outreach on 08 October 2025 in Durban. 

The event will take place under the theme: “_Financial Inclusion for Economic Development: Creating Access to Benefit Grassroots Economies_.”

The inaugural DIRCO-UNISA G20 Town Hall Outreach took place on 14 May 2025 in Pretoria, Gauteng Province. The second instalment took place on 08 August 2025 in Mbombela, Mpumalanga Province, with the third taking place on 16 September 2025 in Cape Town.

South Africa’s G20 Presidency stands as a vital moment to shape global dialogues and promote economic development. It represents a strategic opportunity to advance change in global governance while working towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Financial inclusion is increasingly recognized as a critical element of the global economic system, particularly in relation to poverty eradication, equitable growth and social stability. In a globalized economy, financial inclusion has the potential to reduce inequality, foster resilience and promote sustainable development.

This Week brings together delegates to express concerns about the geopolitical challenges that the world in experiencing now and it’s negative impact on the advancement of reparatory justice. Most importantly this Diaspora Week will strengthen collaboration and cooperation between the Sixth Region and Africa.

The Diaspora Week is held in partnership with the African and Sixth Region Diplomatic Missions in Pretoria, as well as Freedom Park in the context of the African Union Decade for African Roots and Diaspora declared for the period 2021-2031. 
The objective of the event is to strengthen collaboration with the Sixth Region informed by the core values of Pan-Africanism, solidarity, unity and cooperation between the Continent and the Diaspora.

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) has confirmed that a memorial service for the late Ambassador Emmanuel Nkosinathi 'Nathi' Mthethwa will take place this Friday, October 10.

It is set to start at 10am at the Dirco Conference Centre in Pretoria. 

President Cyril Ramaphosa reportedly accorded an official funeral for the former South African Ambassador to France.

The official funeral will be held on Sunday, October 12, in KwaMbonambi, KwaZulu-Natal.
