WOADUS

Patrick Cunningham began the Woadus project with the vision of bringing a natural element to the world of electronic music. Drawing inspiration from folk and world music and combining it with elements of earlier trap sounds, a performance from Woadus combines tribal rhythms and organic melodies with the thumping drums of bass music and deep, moving 808s to evoke the power of the planet. Woadus takes the possibilities of modern music and blends them with instruments that have been used since ancient times. In a world where the very basics of human nature are shifting, Woadus aims to ground through sound, reconnect people with the power of the Earth, and awaken the primal part of the mind.

Passage (better known in the community as Whitney Caine) is an emerging DJ and producer from Edmonton, Canada. Making connections on the decks as much as she does on the dance floor, her sound creates balance with paradox -- sustained by a foundation of deep bass and rolling breaks.

Whitney is an ever-growing representative of the Umbral Sound System crew, including the host and curator of Umbral’s monthly mix series on Sub FM. As diverse as she is cohesive, Passage juxtaposes grimey and ethereal elements, her underground tastes infused with a pop sensibility all her own.
