From his past time in recording studios as mix engineer to the his most recent venture to the decks, his sets weave through both DnB and hip-hop seamlessly. What’s good!? It’s your boy, Jose, aka iLLSiC. I was born in Managua, Nicaragua and I immigrated to the United States at a young age. I lived in Jacksonville, Florida the majority of my life and Southern hip hop had a huge influence on me. 

In high school I started making beats for the homies to rap over and throughout the years taught myself the basics on a keyboard and drums. I eventually took courses to learn music theory, recording and mixing techniques. 

I was lucky enough to intern at a few recording studios and learned basic front of the house engineering for live performances. However, most of my time was spent recording and mixing in a professional studio. After the internships, I worked freelance at a few recording studios and spent 6 years working in radio broadcasting as a producer and board operator. 

In 2020 I started DJing with a couple of friends. Later that year I bought a XDJ-RX2 and I have been DJing ever since. I started with hip hop tracks but eventually got into drum and bass. So far, every DJing gig I’ve had was promoted as a drum and bass/bass music gig, so I think I’m a drum and bass DJ now. ☺

HEYMAC

Canadian based Heymac (Co-founder of Umbral Sound System & resident photographer at Helon Photography)is continuing to make his mark on the DnB community. His music focuses heavily on ethereal atmospheres combined with the emotional orchestral elements.  

His debut release "Eye of Light" on RAM Record's ProgRAM imprint was followed by several releases on UK based Bay 6 Recordings and 2021 saw Heymac self-releasing several songs such as “Hamartia” which have gained support among a number of artists in the Drum and Bass community. You can hear a handful of Heymac originals throughout the first half of the mix.

With a keen edge and deep respect for the dark rolling jungle vibes crashing into neurofunk and all the way to the jazzy soulful music, Wadjit revels in all aspects of DNB.

A resident of the globally recognized drum and bass radio station Bassdrive.com, Wadjit’s imprint on the Canadian music scene is unmistakable. Always guaranteed to deliver energy and good vibes straight to the dancefloor, every Wadjit set is a treat to hear.

TRIGGS

Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, Kelly Spriggs is a beacon in the prairies Bass Music scene. Having DJ’d for a decade now, he’s earned his place as a recognizable figure in Edmonton and beyond through his quick mixing, risky blending, and flawless set curation. Often dancing across 4 decks, you’ll often recognize tunes being played but with a unique blended twist to them. Roots Dubstep is often the backbone of a Triggs set while also incorporating 130 bpm breaks and tech and 160 bpm halftime and jungle. 

Beyond the decks, Kelly is a founding member and primary builder of the Umbral Sound System. Kelly can also be found behind the controls of venues like 9910 and The Common(among others) and teaching the art of DJing at Night Vision Music Academy. 

Needless to say, Triggs is a local powerhouse in his scene. You can always find him working on a project or show in order to best showcase the community that welcomed him and helped him grow.

PASSAGE

Passage, better known in the community as Whitney, is an emerging producer and DJ from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Her selections empathetically evoke emotion with a commanding array of fluid vibrations. Playing with the sounds of deep dubstep, grime, half-time, hip-hop, footwork and jungle, Passage will provide the bass needed for you to unfold and pass through to the other side. 

Surrounded by music throughout her life, Whitney has been consistently expanding her horizons and searching for strange sounds. Training in piano, voice, band and several styles of dance have given her the ear and the edge apparent in her diverse sets. Lit by the fires of west coast festivals, she has deep respect for the culture and love for the community. 

Passage is a creator who finds inspiration in nature and the wonders of ordinary life. Currently, she is continuing her journey of production that began at Night Vision Music Academy, and is an ever-growing element of Umbral Sound System.
