Úna Keane is a Pianist + Composer from Dublin, Ireland. Her latest project is an Album of Piano Solo compositions which combine free-form minimalism & classical cross-over. Her use of repeated motifs and cyclical patterns results in music that gets up close and personal whilst also conjuring up wide cinematic landscape. Written in tempo rubato, with tonal influences from both the traditional Irish music and classical genres, this is music that is imbued with space and room to breath.

The Album was conceived and composed over 3 trips to Paris between 2015 / 2016 while staying at Le Centre Culturel Irlandais, and includes a commission from CCI to compose a piece of music after a Séamus Heaney poem. Back home in Ireland, 2 x week-long stays in a rented cottage in the wilds of the Beara Peninsula & long walks in Dublin’s Phoenix Park with her Irish Terrier Indie provided further inspiration. Recording took place at The Live Room in Rathmines in 2016, working with long-time collaborator Ben Rawlins. 

This record talks to the idea of how we owe who we are to all those who have gone before us. How they paved the way. The thread between past, present and future. It’s ultimately a record about connection.

To date some of Úna’s work has been broadcast on BBC Northern Ireland & RTE, and her compositions have been performed at The National Concert Hall in Dublin, as well as on random pianos wherever she finds herself. Her track "My Panacea" was included on Nils Frahm's 2017 Piano Day Playlist, and "Behold the Beauty (of Land and Sea)" was premiered by RTE Lyric FM especially for Piano Day 2017 on March 29th (the 88th day of the year).

"AS I WAKE, STILL I DREAM" will be released on Friday 5th May 2017, with an Album Launch at the Dublin Unitarian Church.

Silvaticus is the second Single from IN THE DEEP, Úna Keane's sophomore Album of Instrumental music, out on 29.11.19. 

It combines ambient, layered piano with birdsong and electronics. Her first outing as producer, she recorded the birdsong on New Year's Day 2019 while staying with close friends in a cottage just outside Lismore, Co. Waterford. The Piano she added later - recording in her improvisational style, with no edits. 

Inspired by her love of the woods, and the feeling she took from reading Henry David Thoreau's "Walden Pond". The Cover Art comes thanks to Fiachna Ó'Braonáin - a photo he captured of the woods near his home in Co. Wicklow.

Drowning Love (Oboreru Knife) 永遠 OST

Úna Keane is a Composer & Producer from Dublin. Since the release of her piano solo LP ‘As I Wake, Still I Dream’ in 2017, she’s been steadily building a following on the ambient, neoclassical scene. A classically trained pianist with a background in tech, she blends piano, electronics, movement & film.

Sophomore instrumental album ‘In the Deep’ was released at the end of 2019 with shows at D-Light Studios in Dublin and SJQ in London. Lauren Murphy, reviewing for The Irish Times drew comparisons to the work of Ólafur Arnalds and Max Richter, citing her use of looped tracks and field recordings, while RTE 2FM's Dan Hegarty heralded it as a "stunning piece of work that will have you floating from tears to joy". Of her work over the past few years, Tony Clayton-Lea has named her "probably one of the best exponents of instrumental music that comes from a quiet, calm place". The album was recorded in an old Victorian Railway worker's cottage in Dublin 8 on her 100 year old Steck Baby grand Piano using a Tascam hand-held recorder.

At the end of 2020 she put out critically-acclaimed Live Album 'Collaborations' on her UKM label. Recorded at Dublin's Pepper Canister Church on March 5th 2020 (a week before lockdown), it features some very special guests: Stephen Shannon, Liam Ó'Maonlaí, Lōwli, Gareth Quinn Redmond & Ronán Conroy. Named Irish Album of the Year by Broadsheet.ie, it garnered a glowing 8.5/10 review from Hot Press and 4 stars from The Irish Times. It features work from her last 2 LPs, as well as some new work and in-the-flow improv. The concert was recorded, mixed and mastered by Adam KJ, and Úna & Adam co-produced. A Limited Edition Vinyl Pressing of ‘Collaborations’ is now available.

As for 2021 / 2022: She's been working from her home studio in Dublin on some solo, as well as on a couple of collaborative projects ; There's an EP of work for Piano + Electronics slated for release later this autumn, and a new studio album in the pipeline for 2022.
