Still don't have a good feeling about UEFA, but football is still a great sport to watch, at least for UV Radio host @philipp-demankowski and regular guests @conrad-kaden and Gunnar. So despite all controversies, there was no way around it: Having already done a special for EURO 2020, they've done a Football special again, this time for EURO 2024. The rules are the same: you get eight countries from the participating field and have to choose a nice song from each country. The result is an entertaining show with 24 not-so-typical football anthems.

Here's the new radio show straight out of the studio from none other than @stachy, a true legend who has been living his daily life in Dresden for a few years now, but has a career that spans all sorts of roots in music, with a respectable background in hip-hop and a decent career in pop music under his belt. To this day, he just can't get enough of music, be it in an academic context, as a versatile electronic music producer, a passionate lover of ambient and vaporwave or as a fun DJ. For the show, he dives deep into his Polish roots with this special version of Baltic Balearica, which he calls Bigos a la Balearic. Have fun!

Uncanny Valley Radio 095 - Best of 2024

Dancers have to train hard and perform with a rough edge, conveying emotions with as much acting ease as possible. At the end it also requires choreography, clothing, lighting and the appropriate set with lots of helping hands. The bigger the show, the more people are involved. With a few exceptions, it also needs sound, rhythm or just a appropriate soundscape. Sometimes existing music is used because it is structurally well suited to the piece. Other times, working with composers and musicians is the best way to put your own stamp on the piece bringing things to the point.
 
@sandrow_m has been working with choreographers and dance piece makers for several years. With this compilation he presents 20 different pieces of music that were either used because of their suitability or were created. There is no attempt to present the entire spectrum, which would not be possible in 90 minutes anyway. Nevertheless the compilation contains various styles, for which, with a little patience, you can try to find corresponding film material on the Internet to complete your listening experience.

So the temperature has dropped and the maledictus month is upon us…  The goblins at Finders Keepers Records couldn't possibly let October pass without our unfaithful hosts Andy "The Vampire" Votel, Pete "The Mutilator" Mitchell and Doug "The Grave Digger" Shipton bringing you our first Finders Kreepers Hallowe'en Radio Spezial.  Cramming the best part of two blood curdling hours with a small selection of their combined, colossal collection of spook music, the inhabitants of the Kreepers Cottage don their best costumes and invite a crooked cast of trick or treat cheats into the warmth to share their scary wares and impose their schizophrenic opinions, horrific half embalmed facts and rotten mispronunciations with a mutating readership of zombified victims.

Finders Keepers Radio Show - Halloween Special

My connection is your connection! Casually stumbling into the new year without having to strenuously reorganise those awkward slices of obsolete black plastic, your faithful Finders Keepers Radio Show hosts head straight to one of the most reliable and varied corners of the record room and the trusty/crusty/musty shelf controversially marked KRAUTROCK!  A German-born genre previously known as kosmische before the Wümme based group Faust adopted the potential slur as the movement's new blanket tag. 

Aiming to stretch the genre's ready-elasticated boundaries that little bit further Herrs Votel, Mitchell und Shipton try to avoid the obvious major label gatefold trophy records (and happily fail at the first furlong) by adding 1970's DDR pop, German DIY punk, early Krautsploitation horrotica, Deutsch library records and other strains of lesser known Krautsider pop. So expect all the big hitters from Dusseldorf, Munich, Cologne and, errr, Altrincham while swimming in a sea of crackle via freakish visiting cabaret bands and unlikely collaborations spanning five decades... For all those purists, snobs and naysayers out there, we are joined by the original vocalist from CAN, Mr. Malcolm Mooney who is happy discuss Stockhausen, The Fat Boys and David Bowie to add more salt to your tangerine!

Having taken a brief hiatus during the April showers while European record fairs collide with Record Store Day chaos your faithful cosmonautical cowboys Votel, Mitchell and Shipton return to your discerning diaphragms with an outerstellar space rock special of epic interplanetary proportions. 

This bumper edition of our regular proxi-pop pilgrimage is recorded live on lunar location beamed to you directly from the Keepers Cockpit combining unpolished nuggets of black plastic debris in a show that traces, misplaces and erases the history of the flexi-genre known as space rock (while reducing it to various alien strains of Gallic Galaxian psych, Morricone moonshakers, Swiss spatial awareness and Mancunian martian invasions amongst other tenuous intergalactic alliterations). Putting our Tandy teleportation tank to the test comes a wide cast of very special guests including return visitors Jane "Amber Light" Weaver and Matt "Toast Of London" Berry sharing their loves for specific synth fuelled 70's sci-fi. Back in 2015, Team OA proudly showcased the work of Georgian producer Gigi Jikia, better known as HVL. The Away From Everything We Know 12” was instrumental in establishing Organic Analogue’s tendency for deeper strains of electronic music, and now it feels right to be welcoming Gigi back to present his long-awaited debut album.

In the past five years HVL releases have been flying out on labels such as Rough House Rosie, Housewax, Flyance and many more besides. Favouring a dubby aesthetic and adept at handling rhythms and tempos between house, techno and electro, the HVL sound is as distinctive as it is classically rooted. Part of this balanced approach is undoubtedly shaped by Gigi’s role within the scene in his native Tbilisi. As a resident of the much vaunted BASSIANI, he’s helped bring electronic music culture to Georgia and his debut album, Ostati, is a conscious tribute to this youthful, dynamic scene on the farthest reaches of Eastern Europe.

The Georgian word Ostati describes, ‘one who has mastered their craft,’ and Gigi applies the meaning to both his own artistic development and that of BASSIANI and the Georgian electronic music scene that, even five years ago, was a faint whisper of what it is today.

Sonically, the album (which Gigi refers to as one of his most personal works to date) is intended as a document of the sound of Tbilisi - a seductive, understated update on the established HVL dynamics, centred on warm, outboard house and techno but with a noticeably understated mood. There are ambient tracks that let sweeping pads and tones ooze from the speakers, but by and large the club tracks take a pared down approach that favours space and meditation over bold brush strokes. This is far from run of the mill minimal techno though. Whether it’s the teeth-gnashing bite of broken beat affair “Askinkila” or the rough and ready acid workout “Continuum”, the sound is gutsy and dripping with character. “Sallow Myth” unfurls itself over nine minutes, pitching somewhere between the warm-up and twist-out part of the night with tranced-out acid lines and rugged drums to suit a heads down throng.

If you think of releases on Ostgut Ton as painting a picture of Berghain as a club, then Ostati spells out a space where dim lights and mysterious corners provide a playground for wild ideas to dart around in the dark. The overall atmosphere may appear subdued, but it’s merely a cover for the fiery spirit lurking underneath. More than anything, this release defines a sound for HVL and BASSIANI distinct from what you might expect to hear in a more established cultural hub.

While it may not be able to recreate the feeling of getting lost in the smoke in the middle of the empty swimming pool in the early hours of the morning, until you can make it to Tbilisi let HVL be your guide.

Baltic Power for the new UV Funk show. Being one of the most dedicated music lovers in Dresden @lksczk from the @zeptermusik Crew delights us with an acoustic tour through Latvia. Be prepared for new favorites like NSRD, an avantgarde New Wave outfit that was formed in 1982. The group’s activities included not only music but also performances video installations, photography and video art. Or the fellow band Gadi Pirms Sākuma, that created a very unique version of Coldwave and Neue Musik. Both Bands were part of Riga’s DIY scene of the 1980s and 1990s, often borrowing gear from colleagues for their recordings. There’s a lot to discover here. With a strong emphasis on the records’ artwork the label heads Philipp Demankowski, Conrad Kaden and Carl-Johannes Schulze are constantly on a mission to establish and refine the artists from the roster as well as to search for new talents.
