Eclecticism is the keyword when it comes to the musical taste of LUZ1E. She brings together everything that has that certain punchy power to it. Born and raised in Frankfurt am Main she started to get into electronic music at age 16 when her brother introduced her to early Chicago and New York House with the likes of Kerri Chandler (@kerri-chandler), Larry Heard (@larryheardofficial) and Co.

It didn't take her long to travel a couple of miles west where she discovered the diversity of Detroit's electronic music culture with sonic influences from Drexciya (@drexciya), Aux88 (@aux88), Octave One (@octaveone) and others.

She values authenticity and integrity, which translates into her taste in music as well. Knowing where the music comes from and acknowledging its roots is a key approach in discovering and selecting her music. That's why her sets build a bridge between classic tunes and new sounds, combining them into a notion of futuretroism.

Based out of Brooklyn, New York, Adrestia co-founded her collective, ALKHEMY and their party, The Black Hole, in 2016. With her collective’s focus on diversifying lineups by elevating artists of color in techno, Adrestia has had a hand in developing the rapidly expanding underground scene coming out of Brooklyn. After gaining attention for her Boiler Room set at Unter: Latin America in 2019, she’s since earned the reputation for her unique and punchy sets heard at local gatherings like Fourth World, Dominion, a Discwoman collaboration party and the club, Basement. While she also made marks internationally at an ALKHEMY and ARTS showcase at Griessmuehle and STAUB in Berlin.


What inspired this mix?
I feel like it’s fair to say that we are currently experiencing a Black renaissance in arts and culture. After years of perseverance, and now the global movement for Black lives, the spotlight on Black creators has never shined brighter. As a BIPOC myself, I feel even prouder to be contributing in my own way. This mix is inspired by the energy and vibrancy I see every day in the artists I admire, the breathtaking work I discover and the unstoppable movement for racial equity.

What makes you feel powerful?
When I express myself through art is when I feel the most powerful. I was classically trained as a dancer growing up, so whenever I stepped on stage to perform I felt like the strongest
 version of myself. Now as a DJ, and most recently learning music production, I feel powerful having the control of my expression at my fingertips. I don’t need to say anything. Music does all the speaking for me.

Starting as a label that served basically as a platform for their friends’ music in 2010, Uncanny Valley evolved into a record label that assembles acclaimed artists from the electronic music scene not only from the label’s base in Dresden but also from Germany and beyond. With a strong emphasis on the records’ artwork the label heads Philipp Demankowski, Conrad Kaden, Carl-Johannes Schulze and Albrecht Wassersleben are constantly on a mission to establish and refine the artists from the roster as well as to search for new talents. Artists as Jacob Korn, Cuthead, Credit 00, Massimiliano Pagliara, CVBox or Panthera Krause all feel at home on the label, giving them the chance to develop projects that are not only music related but can also integrate different art forms. With the two offshoots Rat Life and shtum under its belt, Uncanny Valley does not stand still to explore the full spectrum of electronic and not so electronic music from House via Disco, Hip-Hop or Ambient through to Techno.
