Shame that human ratings have to be the fitness function. I am interested in how regularised music evolution is, I guess it has a lot to do with the structure of our cochlear for harmonic series. Doing a version of this with percussion/rhythms would somehow be more interesting.

Can’t wait to share my new set and it’s ingredients below. Considered to be percepted as dynamic and quite eclectic as mixed salad of acid, UK garage, partly techno and lightly spiced by some trance.

Recorded in the controversial pandemic reality of 2021 when you often got a feeling you can kick back on the dancefloor with no restrictions and right after got updated it has to be postponed again. Three Spheres Remixes represents the final chapter in the Three Sphere’s series. As with his previous album releases, Kodomo hands over the keys to exceptional artists, who each add their own special magic to the tracks. Remixers this round include Felix Fleer, Michal Wolski, The Sight Below, Corey Fuller, Black Light Smoke, Kaeoflux, Micah Frank, and NRV.

Felix Fleer kicks things off with his post IDM remix of “Spinfoam”, taking the spastic drums from the original and tastefully blending them with a series of intricate and nuanced variations. The Kaeoflux remix for “Heat Death” begins with a cinematic burst, before leading you down a path of sublime beats slowly flowing along effortlessly. The track concludes by melting back into the abyss from which it began. Corey Fuller strips “Invisible Lines” down to a few piano chords and a hauntingly delicate vocal melody, further drawing out the classical nature of this piece. The Sight Below slows things down with his take on “Pink Clouds” which feels hazy and heavy like a lost echo from the original. Michal Wolski launches you into a hypnotic storm with his remix for “A Meditation On Anxiety”, creating a swirling momentum of atmosphere and hard edged techno percussion. Black Light Smoke’s gritty house take on “Continuum” harkens back to the early days of The Orb, fusing vocal samples, an infectious bass line, and a foundational driving dance beat that is made for the club. Micah Frank takes a radical turn on “Invisible Lines”, playing super slow live drums over a bed of washed out guitars and dreamy synth pads and noises. The album’s final rework is from Foil Imprints newcomer NRV, who focuses solely on the ambient qualities of “Pink Clouds”, evoking the images of the fleeting colors in the summer sky’s horizon, bringing the the album to a stunning close.

DarwinTunes - evolution of music commentary

For the first time we have made a medley completely automatically (previously, loops were picked by Bob for the medleys).  For each 100 generation period a consistently highly rated loop (across multiple raters) is chosen by a simple confidence interval-based statistic.  Most loops scored more than 4 (I like it) on average.  Reply to the timed comments if you would like more detailed statistics for particular loops.  Homologous recombination was enabled from around 3300 generations.

Bob is a human who loves music and has been doing live mixes on a lockdown radio station he set up with friends. Most are on Mixcloud (https://www.mixcloud.com/Glastonauts_Live/) but he'll start putting them here too.

DarwinTunes (2009-2016) was an experiment to see what kind of music we get as a result of evolution by natural selection applied to a computer-generated four bar loop.  The "synth patches" are evolved also - using additive synthesis (just sine waves).  The only human input was the choice of tempo, time signature, effects rack and few other minor things.
