A paradise of long sandy beaches lay beneath the feet of fortresses from a bygone age. Arab, Christian, and Roman stories have played out in Palma de Mallorca, above the turquoise waters of the Bay of Palma. It's here, in this historic layer cake that David Carrillo was born and bred. His attraction to music came from a young age and deepened from year to year, as he cut his teeth in the studio, and in the booth of local pubs and parties. His prowess as a producer is now only matched by the myriad of aliases that he has amassed over the years. A restless musical soul whose creativity strives for true representation. As Difid he curates the infinitely groovy Parsatik imprint. An outlet for his devastating dancefloor bombs that heave and sigh with energy and poise. Alongside this, he's released under both DCP & Dakpa. Laying claim to releases on well-respected labels such as @Sukhumvit-Records, @CurteaVeche, @MulenRecords, @AMAM-2 & @Caph-Records... and the list goes on. This amongst his co-founding and continued contributions to all-star producer team @Befogmusic. 

It's clear that a talent of this magnitude has creative energy like few others, and it's a true pleasure to host Difid on our series.

For the 30th entry of Schmaus’ podcast series, give a warm welcome to Japanese artist Kai (aka Kaitaro Nakajima). Born in 1977 in Tokyo, Kai discovered DJing at the age of 17, spinning Hip-Hop records. It is in 2003 that the artist got into the Minimal House and Techno sphere and been actively producing since then.
His first release came circa 2005 on Sud Electronic, which led to several more on Alphahouse, Level Records and Enliven Music. Kai moved to Berlin in 2007, where he performed live for years to gain experience.
In the past decade, the artist released on major labels such as MERKUR Schallplatten, Little Helpers and Someone Else. Still based in Berlin today, Kaitaro focuses on live acts and music production.
In the opening of the live act, a solid groove comes in with complex tones and tasty drums. Aquatic organic textures followed by grand piano and strings parts create a contrast between acoustic instruments and the acousmatic production.
The mood shifts to a dreamy pad with trippy vocals, accented with sharp hi-hats, and switch again to minimalistic passages. These abstract moments display a clever drum programming, wet yet subtle FX use and tonal textures.
The artist juggles with psychedelic chord progressions, rich details and glitches in a seamless storytelling. The listener is trapped in a special bubble of sound with out of this world atmosphere.
Kai takes is drum patterns to another level with congas and bongos solos, to go back to serene and deep vibrations. We encounter old school timeless chords, dubby elements, and a super efficient sub bass all along the performance.
This set is a demonstration of movement in music, A-game sound design and unfolding narrative, which will leave the listener stunned on a final abstract note.

Kozo’s fingerprint has touched our club experiences for almost two decades now. Record selector, producer under various aliases (Dr. Kozo or Ooodjkoz), part of the Sahau and AK41 projects or label co-owner, Kozo has been actively reshaping Romania’s electronic underground with his personal output. 

Kozo’s code of musical marvels, enlisted from all corners of the sphere, fueled excitement when kicking off the Guesthouse dancing chamber at SNRS48 earlier this year. The focus on the atmosphere was a vital facet to the holistic experience of the event. 

The listener is greeted with a brilliantly arranged euphoric electro that is just over a minute in length, a break that club-goers can easily find themselves getting lost in, for the moment, for eternity. Using his imagination and passion for digging, and most importantly, his sense of humor, through his selection, structure and mix Kozo adds a little bit more layer and edge to the color spectrum of the contemporary electronic music scene. 

Blending various electronic music genres, the set includes tracks that create a calm after or before the storm. Using the mixer as a musical instrument, the selections packs potent weapons that bring hypnoses or even self-revelation amongst the dancers, whether listened on home speakers or the confines of their headphones, from `Aphasia - Acapulco (Q6 Remix) igniting thunderous synths, to Quenum - Ritual (Frank Haag's ceremonial re-ritualisation) or the contemporary engagingly propulsive ‘Dreamers’ from Enzo Siragusa and Rossko.
