An established producer whose stock has risen consistently over a 6-year career, Imran Khan returns to Meanwhile Horizons with a full EP debut and his “Prowler / Big Sky / Hourglass”.

An artist whose music transcends the traditional progressive house tag, Imran Khan has presided over a deep and dramatic trademark sound that has seen him grace GMJ & Matter’s flagship imprint on multiple occasions since a 2020 remix debut. Going onto release the “Horizonz / Push Thru” EP in February 2021 and “Equinox” in October later that year, a sole outing on the Meanwhile Horizons sister label saw “Serenity” feature as part of the “Beyond the Horizon, Vol. 2” at the end of 2022. Now the UK artist returns with a musical triptych of the highest order.

Opening proceedings, “Prowler” immediately impresses with thumping beat and smooth sub-bass groove. A filtered percussion weaves a magical path while lustrous pads meander gently across the track in dreamlike fashion. As the rhythmic framework falls aways, beautiful sonic landscapes fill the stereo spectrum with a hallmark filmic quality, before the dynamic and dark rhythm makes its presence felt in the final stages.

A rolling breaks pattern sweeps across the opening refrains of “Big Sky” in an epic progressive breaks groove from yesteryear. An immaculately syncopated bassline sits within, as atmospheric pads coruscate in sonic waves that gently rise and fall. Building through a stripped-back breakdown, the various percussive and melodic elements combine in layers of sound before the titanic bassline groove returns once more. The result is an exquisitely crafted affair that maintains its rhythmic character to the last.

With seismic kick and whip-cracking snare, a swathe of melodic elements soon suffuses through “Hourglass”. A glassy motif hypnotises with melodic simplicity while a leviathan bass growl adds menace and depth. Redolent in delayed arpeggios that filter in and out of listener consciousness at the mid-point, the track lilts with consummate ease across its soul-stirring final movement as the melodic layers gradually drop away to reveal a meticulously arranged top-line.

The original track by the Argentinian DJ & Producer MILIANO is a perfect example of his music style, ethereal and minimalistic Progressive House, with beautiful atmospheres and hypnotic sequences as main elements.

LIO Q, returns to Univack making another solid track, using most of the original elements with great skill, and  adding some new elements to get a very strong version, perfect for the dance floor.

The Colombian GUX JIMENEZ shows a very different and particular version, darker, more complex, more hypnotic, but also progressive. Its main synth will make you mind explode.

GONZALO SACC & RODRIGO LAPENA have been making music together for a long time. All their collaborations result in very complete Progressive House. An example of a perfect music symbiosis.

Miliano - Agent 007 (Gux Jimenez Remix) [Univack]

A prolific and talented artist of equal measure, Michael A returns to Proton Music with the fifth instalment of his acclaimed "Fantasy" series. Opener "Third Down" evokes atmosphere aplenty with its deep and dark vibes as hypnotic and muted arps build easily among white-noise washes and spoken samples. A crystalline synth motif adds an air of unease while a head-shaking bassline groove supplies dancefloor character. The arpeggiated narrative is continued through the aptly titled "Modulator" as a chunky rhythmic framework keeps the energy high. An array of delay-soaked effects create depth while an immaculately cadenced pluck sequence provides dynamism post-breakdown alongside a floating and glassy-sounding melody. "Shine a Light" immediately impresses with its intricate percussive top-line of shakers and hi-toms, while a hypnotic melody plays across the early phrases. A rasping bassline adds depth as multi-faceted layers of complementary melodies coruscate over each other with richly textured pads affording atmosphere aplenty. The final track sees "Passion" entice with its powerful bassline gravitas and low-end energy. Steam-powered white-noise washes gently pulsate in time with the hefty kick and muted glissando synth before a more rounded and flowing melodic pattern sits easily within the rhythmic and bassline components throughout the second half.

A regular fixture in the upper echelons of the progressive house artist charts, Alex O'Rion is a name synonymous with a raft of high-profile releases over more than 15 years and a distinguished production career. Black Hole, Sudbeat Music, Lost & Found and his own Solis Records have thus all played host to his imperious sound. Remixes for Desaturate and Somersault were Particles highlights in 2015 and 2017 while a remix of Juan Deminicis' "Sounds of Freedom" was a moment of magic on Proton Music in early 2021. Now returning, the Alex O'Rion remix of "Spring Singing" is a typically potent dancefloor offering that bathes elements of Michael A's original in a new light while creating beautifully sculpted original melodies with their themes rooted in the "Vol. 3" opener. Full of fluctuating and atmospheric beauty, the track develops elegantly over its near 8-minte duration to stunning effect.

From the central Argentine province of Santa Fe, Rosario resident Julieta Kühnle is famed for her silky DJ skills and peerless production credentials. A regular across her homeland in Côrdoba, Buenos Aires, and Mendoza, a production career in tandem has seen music signed to Clubsonica Records, Mango Alley and Armen Miren's Hoomidaas to name but a few. Making her Proton Music debut, the Julieta Kühnle remix of the series title track is a powerful reminder of her skill and craftsmanship as carefully sculpted beats sit perfectly across "Fantasy" and familiar refrains float in unexpected new patterns and phrasing to create a wonderful new interpretation. Evolving over its phrases, new analogue motifs and additional production material blend effortlessly with original components to create a magical club-friendly remix that is certain to find favour with the progressive house fraternity.

Another magical combination of original tracks from Michael A and remixes from Alex O'Rion and Julieta Kühnle find a home on "Fantasy, Vol. 5".

Following this year’s acclaimed singles ‘Presence’ and ‘Colors of Life’, as well as the upcoming ‘Silk & Fur’ (out September 19), ‘Aelle’ is a masterfully woven collection of tracks that balances the intensity of the dance floor with the intimacy of personal listening. Speaking about the upcoming album, OXIA commented: “As with my previous albums, I let my creativity run free once again, without setting limits. ‘Aelle’ also highlights OXIA’s collaborative spirit, featuring contributions from long-time friends and creative partners. Musically, the record flows through a rich spectrum: melodic, groove-driven tracks (Nuance, Faces), ethereal pieces laced with emotion (Calling the Sun, Saisons), and moments of deep, poignant melancholy (Aerial). The title track ‘Aelle’ and songs like ‘A Special Day’ and ‘Run’ underline OXIA’s ability to move effortlessly between the club and the heart, creating music with enduring resonance.
