Deep Breakfast 317 ~ Verveine

When we first covered Les Chaos Ambiants, it was clear they weren’t aiming for the usual festival formula. Instead of big stages and brand sponsorships, they’re focused on how electronic music and art can interact with local identity and environmental urgency. For 2025, the festival returns to Sommant, right in the Morvan Regional Natural Park, continuing to build on this concept. There’s still just one stage, no clashes, no sprinting between acts, but now there’s added weight on multidisciplinary art, from Adrien Lamm’s sculptural installations by the lake to workshops exploring endangered species through sound and visual design.

The lineup remains eclectic but united by atmosphere, curated once again by Alfonso Pomeda, who’s also the artistic mind behind Barcelona’s Mostra Festival. The full lineup for 2025 includes ABSIS, Alcachofa, Avsluta, Faery, Fran Campos, Lynne , Merovee, Metshka Pampo, Myles Dillon, Nems-B, Orsu, Owl, Toé, and Sybil. Les Chaos Ambiants seems designed for people who treat listening as an experience in itself, a festival where silence and subtlety can carry as much weight as rhythm or volume. Which brings us naturally to one of this year’s standout additions.

Let’s be honest: some artists play music; others change the room around you. Owl belongs firmly in the second camp. Just a few weeks ago, he opened the infamous “La Cabaña”, the ambient and experimental temple at Perpendicular Festival, with a set steeped entirely in lush, enveloping ambient. It was a lesson in subtle power, transforming a cavernous space into something intimate and weightless. It wasn’t flashy, but it left everyone exhaling like they’d just remembered how to breathe. Owl’s ability to craft this atmosphere without ever sounding forced makes him a perfect fit for Les Chaos Ambiants. Here’s an artist who understands that music in a pine forest doesn’t need to shout. The haze of Paral·lel festival has barely lifted, but we’re rewinding to another moment worth lingering on, February in Granada, at the Moonback club. There, under the warm glow of the Extramostra banner, Mostra linked up with the Klub Collective for a night that balanced local soul with an international touch. The lineup reads like a heads-only dream: Timnah, Antonio Vázquez, Refracted, and a solid core of Klub Collective residents including Fran Acosta, Kaizen, and Utopian. The kind of night that reminded us why the first slot matters more than most people admit. It’s the architectural role: shaping the night’s flow from zero.

Utopian did just that. His set unfolds like a slow exhale, dub-laced ambient that creeps, swells, and gradually transforms into chugging, low-slung techno hypnosis. It’s a patient climb: syncopated, restrained, precise. Not a single cheap move, just deep focus and floor logic, the kind that sets the table without stealing the meal. But make no mistake, this was a statement. A warm-up that didn’t just support the night, but elevated it.

There’s a special kind of trust when a festival makes someone a resident. For Les Chaos Ambiants, that someone is Lynne. We’ve partnered with this boutique French festival for the second year, sharing the sounds and stories behind their lakeside weekend in the wooded hills of Sommant. The festival thrives on curation that feels personal, lineups that move like chapters in a book, sound systems tuned to catch every detail, and a setting where the air itself seems to carry the low-end.

Lynne embodies that approach. Originally from Japan and now based in London, she’s built a reputation on mixing low-lit atmospheres with rhythm patterns that shift just as you think you’ve caught them. Her triumphant comeback to our podcast series finds her opening the spectrum: warmer tones, space between the beats, a subtle dub pulse, and even flickers of jazz phrasing. Yet the structural backbone remains hers, breaks that fold time and pacing that keeps you just ahead of the next turn. It’s not a departure, it's more like a widening of the frame, perfectly in sync with the spirit of Les Chaos Ambiants.

Wandering lucidly through time we find ourselves in a new year, which to some may feel like a new era. Welcoming us warmly with a continuously dissolving and evolving mix is Wrong Assessment. A clarion call to Milan as a forceful emerging artist, he has established himself through collaborations with producers such as Max_M and a string of auspicious solo EPs. His mix for UNRUSH speaks volumes to the kind of spirit that lies within the deepest caverns of electronic music, diving through a variety of styles to bring us a sound that can be clearly recognized as that of the present moment.

Fungal networks stretch deep underground, building connections throughout the forest and maintaining a central flow of life. Such is the relationship our next guest, Jamie McCue, has with the music scene. He is a central connector, working behind the scenes to bring artists together and showcase the very best of ambient and dub techno with his Silent Season imprint. His sound is synonymous with the lightest snow falling at the first sign of winter. It is weightless, radiant, but simultaneously as powerful as the heaviest rain. A dim light appears in the dead of winter, growing and flickering until a narrative of dark and light is born. Our next guest has mastered these icy narratives through the musical passages he constructs as Silent-One. An integral part of the From Another Mind crew out of Stuttgart, Silent-One has formed waterfalls from whispers as he continues to awe audiences with his carefully constructed DJ sets. In 2016 he launched his own label, Intimate Silence, which has since become a platform for artists such as PVNV, Głós, and Dold to explore the innermost depths of their music. In order to thaw us out from the inside, he has put together yet another hour of sonic soliloquy perfectly fitting for this frigid season. Enjoy!

We live in a world of transmissions. In a flurry and fluster they shimmer across an ethereal plane, filling our modern world to the brim with information. Our next guest, Antenes, specializes in taking these transmissions to a new dimension with her unorthodox methods of musical composition. Utilizing vintage telephone equipment, she shapes and molds sound as if she were a sculptor. Her work on L.I.E.S., and more recently Silent Season, has been met with a resounding praise and for good reason. Antenes is the ethos of the unknown, the sound that became lost between the cracks. Our next guest, Kamikaze Space Programme, explores these so-called "errors" with an elegant diligence. His singular sound has offered him the opportunity to release on renowned platforms such as Luke Slater's Mote Evolver imprint and West Norwood Cassette Library. With a new LP slated for Osiris Music, he takes a welcome turn into more impalpable realms, focusing his sound increasingly on dubbed-out atmospheres.
