Abdulla Rashims high above water mix 2011

This hybrid DJ / Live Set was recorded in a yurt structure at the Freerotation Festival in Wales. This time my idea for the set was to take us all much further out, much deeper inside than the set from last year. A more disembodied experience. 

As I had done last year, I sat on the floor in front of the speakers to perform instead of behind them as a DJ normally does. This greatly enhanced my feeling of experiencing the set with the audience, dissolving the usual performer / audience divide. 
Below is the list of tracks that I played in addition to live improvisation using a eurorack modular system.

LCC is the acronym of Las CasiCasiotone. They are Ana and Uge, a duo girl from Asturias, northern Spain. They have released their first LP, ‘d/evolution’ on Editions Mego which currently has been remixed by Tujiko Noriko, Throwing Snow, Robert Lippok, Komatssu and LCC themselves, as an EP also on Mego. ‘d/evolution’ was very well received by the press and public and it has been selected among The Best Albums of 2014 by specialized media.

LCC started their project in 2010. They have been involved in different artistic projects, focusing above all on sound design and music production. They have developed different musical adaptations and audiovisual installations in collaboration with SAT of Montreal, Lieu Multiple of Poitiers, CCCB, LABoral, Niemeyer Center and Hangar. 

In 2013, they made the soundtrack for the documentary Ciutat Morta (selected by San Sebastian Film Festival) and, at the end of that year, they won the famous contest Villa de Bilbao. In March of 2014 they win an AMAS award in the Best Electronic Production category. 
This summer they’re going to play at Sónar Festival on a special showcase for the 20th anniversary of Editions Mego.

Detroit original Kyle Hall offers up this week’s mix, and rather than piece together the deep techno set you might expect, Hall has taken a trip into the unknown. An all-vinyl blend, the mix shifts slowly from ambience into searing noise without missing a beat, and while it might be missing the 4/4 chug some might be pining for, it certainly doesn’t cry out for it. Instead it feels more like a transmission from another planet: distorted, distant and fascinating.

Kyle Hall will be performing alongside Laraaji, Andres, Hashman Deejay and Pender Street Steppers this Saturday.

For this reason we are determined to keep a global perspective when it comes to our curation, with our previous mixes ranging from Glasgow to Brisbane. We now present an exemplification of the rich creative talent that emanates from the south with this hour of time-melting atmosphere compiled by Italian artist Kaelan aka Nico Campanella. This is something Unrush founder Mareena is aware of, which is why she has personally prepared an hour of lush, tender atmospherics to ease us out of this worried world and into the present moment of endless tranquillity. Mareena's passion for music is contagious, and her mixes exemplify this as much as her curatorial prowess. She blends elements almost as if she was the forest floor, supporting the sprouting buds with essential nutrients while letting the old-growth be seen in all its glory. Set Of The Day Podcast - 681 - David Brixx

In every country lockdowns are progressively lifting but it seems that we still have to stay at home a bit longer, its still uncertain for our club scene.

Times are strange. We all have to push ourselves forward digitally in order to maintain a "Social DJ Life," which reveals how our social image and music are intrinsically connected; the status of a DJ becomes instantly meaningless without actual people gathering and communing through music.

With the overflowing amount of information, it is sometimes easy to get lost in an endless consumption of content.

I am of course, also part of this social media game, and thought a bit about what I wanted to present within these messy times, I decided to compile a mix of birds singing to help relaxation.

Now that cities are running at idle speed, nature is slowly coming back through unexpected forms:
 
Butterflies can live their life without getting hit by a car, plants are retaking what is theirs and birds fly and parade in front of us, not nagging us but just beautifully expressing their freedom.

This mix idealises my dream journey in nature after lockdown, with all its phases, from apprehension to hope.

I hope you, like me, enjoy the original singers of this world.

This includes a recording I made at the botanical garden of Melbourne when I toured Australia in May 2018.

U N R U S H is an experiment in sound, a crystalline vision of eternal pause. Through our record label, podcasts, interviews, and event series we focus on presenting a diverse array of alluring ambient music. With each guest contribution we search for a serene space within the mind that is free from the encumbering stresses of daily life. Our events will act as a platform for distinguished artists and take place in stunning cultural surroundings both in the city and in nature, taking a step away from the pounding hedonism of the club to showcase the other side of electronic music.
