We are very proud and excited to share this special episode of our Podcast Series recorded live by Christian Duka at the lovely SONIC GARDEN gathering that happened at one of London’s most inspiring experimental music venues IKLECTIK last month 🌿

Christian is the founder of immersive art and 3D sound non-profit organisation Amoenus, a sound artist and a long-standing friend of Introspective Electronics. He previously delivered collaborative mixes for our Podcast Series as part of MARMO and Vādin and we are over the moon to finally have him release a solo journey.

In this chapter, Christian merges his signature flavour of psychedelic ambient with atmospheric dub, downtempo and heady leftfield experiments. This journey feels like a night wild with dreams. It’s droney interstellar initiation inconspicuously metamorphosing into sensual dub intertwined with deeply hypnotic wormhole loops and warm, tribal-infused rhythm sections stretching across wide spatial expanses. There is nothing left to do but listen with all your might for those moments of magic that are packed tightly across this sonic canvas ✨🔮✨

Please introduce yourself
- My name is Johanna, I produce and play electronic music, both DJ and live performer. Moved to Sweden last year after 13 years in Berlin, and recently started up a creative space here in an old car garage, where I have my hair salon, host music events, exhibitions, flea markets and workshops etc
 
Can you describe your relationship to music throughout your life?
- It's always been there but changing a lot during the years. It has however always been spiritual to me in a non-religious way, music has always been a great way of communicating my inner thoughts and emotions that can't be described with words.

How did Berlin influence the way you make and listen to music?
- It wasn't so much about Berlin itself, it was more about moving away from everyone I knew and everything that I did in Sweden, and moving to a new (and at the time cheaper) place, where I could afford and take the time to be working with music and be alone. I only DJ'd locally in Berlin for the first couple of years before I started touring, so I wasn't really influenced by the "berlin technoscene" too much. I was mostly amazed about the way people partied for days at a time, but for me partying too much meant having no energy left to be creative in the studio. 13 years went by very fast I'll tell you that. One thing that I do miss in Berlin are the very many record stores to buy vinyl, but Malmö has some really good ones too actually (Bolero and Rundgång for example), and to go out partying daytime. And being out for too long.

How does it feel to be back in Malmo now, both in terms of music and life in general?
- Oh my god, i'm so happy to be here. The crew I've found here have already thrown a few open-airs, a couple of club nights where we've done everything from decor to DJ. It's so inspiring! Berlin is filled to the brim with so many people doing the same thing, which can also mean that it's very easy to get ungrateful/jealous of your DJ-friends which is kind of terrible actually. 

How did you approach your Patience release, and how did that differ from your usual approach to making music?
- As I wrote to Luca who did the artwork, I was making the music at a time when everything around me was moving and changing in directions that I didn't choose myself. It was mid-pandemic, I'd lost all of my income,  and had decided to leave the city that I had lived in for 13 years (and loved at that time), not knowing if I'd be able to continue making music or not. Going to the studio to work on this was one of my few comforting things I could do, and sitting with it gave me a nice pause from that intense Weltschmerz I was feeling at the time.

Do you have a personal favorite longform piece of music?
- So many, I mean isn't that what DJ-mixes are for as well? A really well thought through DJ mix is something I appreciate so so much. And I want to mention everything from John Carroll Kirby, especially the Patience release. So good!

Our podcast series continues, this month’s story is told by Utopian. 

Southern Spaniard from Jaén, Isidro is a storyteller in favor of deep long journeys. His particular style can be described as the commingling of ambient with incursions into dub and experimental music as well as tribal textures. Today’s session is a landscape of different feelings and textures combining old gems with modern organic sounds. 

‘ I always try to make something special and craft something as personal as possible with harmonious and smooth transitions. At the moment, I am obsessed with mixing at 80-90 bpm because I believe you can achieve higher degrees of intensity despite the low speed. I am in the constant process of exploring the possibilities of mixing music so who knows what I’ll be playing next? ‘

Such is the kind of world that our next guest, Richard Fearless, conjures up with his enigmatic expression of electronic music. Everflowing, ever-evolving, and never boring, he has established himself as a true pioneer as both a selector and producer. As part of the band Death in Vegas, he founded the label DRONE in 2004 where he then continued on to release his first album Transmission in 2016. Since then, Fearless has been busy at work bending genres and mastering the art of synthesis.

Clocking in at over an hour, this mix is rather a live recording made up entirely of his own productions. A playful, experimental and thoroughly engaging listen that takes us deep into his world. Hello dear friends, today we are pleased to share with you the podcast of a very important person for us in whom we have great trust :)

iwamaki is a japanese Drone＆Ambient techno producer who started djing in 2015. Her approach is a deep drone journey. She is conscious of creating a deep sound with an approach of layering sounds.

She also plays as "Menou" when she does LIVE SET since 2019.
Since last year, I have been releasing MIX and LIVESET from podcast (Into The Abyss,TREVE, The Godmother Radio,IDA Radio etc…)

In the past, she played at Dommune of the event "Hardcore Ambience" in 2017 and also at Contact Tokyo,VENT Tokyo, sound space α, Kagurane, Soup etc...

She would be happy if people could listen and enjoy the subtle changes in sound.
