The Hucklebuck are a seven piece swinging blues band. Playing their own originals and interpretations of classic electric standards, with an emphasis on authenticity and swing.

Collectively the band has played with some incredible roots music artists and bands, such as: Kirk Fletcher, Matt Schofield, Pee Wee Ellis, Beth Rowley, Martha High, Andy Sheppard, Rodriguez, Phantom Limb, Marc Ford (ex The Black Crowes), Hannah Williams & The Affirmations and Lillian Boutte.

The Hucklebuck are a band that has evolved out of a desire to hear blues music played the way they want to hear it - swinging, dynamic, melodic and full of bold statements.

Chris Watkins is an American musician-singer-songwriter. Hailing from Alaska, Watkins is the founding member of the band the Drunk Poets. He began playing the guitar at the age of 10, and by the age of 16 he had formed the alternative band the Drunk Poets, who, in the 1990’s greatly influenced the Alaskan music scene. Watkins has continued to carry the band name with various members coming and going over the years.
Some of Watkins’ influences have been Lou Reed, Talking Heads, and Bob Dylan. Watkins is currently residing in Alaska where he continues to write and record music. His most recent album is 'Arizona Raincoat'.

Mixing dirty 1960's garage band riffs with razor post punk bass lines, the devil may care vocals and a good collection of shoes, the Butterfly Wheels (of whatever vintage) have always played a unique brand of rain soaked northern rock n roll.

The Butterfly Wheels' tastes and influences are pretty chaotic, ranging from the imperial Nick Cave to the elegant Durutti Column, and from elusive blues man Blind Willie McTell to the majestic Velvet Underground. However, whatever the genre and whatever the sound, the band's emphasis has always been on quality and the choicest cuts of vinyl... Over the years the band members might have had varying amounts of wealth, but they have always had impeccable taste! If a song or an artist moves your heart, your mind or your feet then the influence gets thrown into the Yorkshire shaped melting pot and spat out (punk throwback style) as something fresh, contemporary and soulful. It's this mix kaleidoscopic range of influences and magpie like borrowing (a fine Modernist tradition) that has given the Butterfly Wheels their sound – at once familiar and tantalising new. The perfect soundtrack to wildly oscillating times.

The Butterfly Wheels are a shaping shifting collective of northern gentlemen who will debate the merits of Keynesian economics, catch a Mapplethorpe exhibition and then jump on stage with the ramshackle abandon of Shane McGowan playing a Primal Scream covers set. Over the years, the band have sung bittersweet songs of love lost and lust found, social commentaries about smashing the system (and then carefully tidying it up again afterwards), and songs about: drinking, dancing and a quiet night in on the sofa with the partner of your slightly off kilter dreams.

As well as music, they – just like their beatific audience – are interested in: art, cinema, photography, ballet, literature, horse racing, cricket, current affairs, politics and all manner of whatnot – a sort of peoples' band in many ways... but only if you're the kind of people that like The Fall, Andy Warhol, Aldous Huxley, Peaky Blinders and Harrington jackets!

The Butterfly Wheels have been rocking and souling across Yorkshire for more than a decade.  Over that time, they’ve had almost as many line ups as Trigger’s brooms! This website acts as a form of compilation tape and – as with the best mix tapes – it’s been put together by people pretending that they’re cooler than they are in the hope that you fall in love with them.
