OS Premiere: Talik - Dust Masks The Silence [Intercept]

Talik follows up her critically acclaimed 'Cold Silver' EP with another offering for Intercept. After releasing on 3024 and Pressure Dome, 'Let it Break' ventures further into the world Charlotte Denman has sculpted for herself, cementing an aesthetic that floats between a dream state and waking up with eyes wide open. A sound largely influenced by nature, her background in yoga, combined with a love for the UK’s leftfield electronic scene. 

The opener 'Don't Look Else You'll See' is a perfect example of what makes Talik tick. The floating pads, off-kilter drums and water-like fx sounds make for a great introduction in the next chapter of Talik's story. 

Title track 'Let It Break' uses alien-like synth work combined with vocal chops, a swampy bassline, breaks-inspired drums, and big sound fx to build a world that on one hand feels technological, but on the other strangely organic; a feat that Talik has shown in her work to date. 

'Dust Masks The Silence' further builds on the flow of the previous two tracks, interchanging the colour for something that's less saturated but still very playful. We're taken on a conceptual trip into the inner psyche of an artist showing her strengths in each corner we take. 

'When an Iris Blooms' finishes the EP, showing a more gentle side to the story of the EP. The raw drums are interchanged for choirs, soothing synth work, and percussion bathed in reverbs and delays. It closes off the EP perfectly, cleansing the listener in the process.

Suze’s debut EP ‘Structures 1-5’ looks to functional architecture in Sheffield and Bristol for inspiration. 

With previous contributions to the Pressure Dome imprint, Suze lands on Room II Records for his first expansive release. Speaking about the release, Suze says, ‘I wanted to view the structures not as practical, functional objects but rather from a purely aesthetic standpoint, as sculptures almost.

I tried to evoke certain physical characteristics of the structures. The static and repeating shapes found in the structures with looping melodies, or the hard and unnatural materials they’re made from with rough synth timbres.’

Ahead of its release on the 10th December, we have the exclusive stream of the emotive closer ‘Structure 5’ - a track which climbs from metallic pulsating synths into a kaleidoscopic melody filled with colour.

The release titled ‘Bodega Sound’ will be the second V/A compiled by General Merchant (formerly known as DORIS Records) and will be the labels’ fourth official release (previous releases can be listened to here https://generalmerchant.bandcamp.com/). General Merchant is an Eora based record label, hosting events and releasing music that represents (part of) so-called ‘Australia’s club scene. Compiled entirely of local artists from Eora/Sydney (Gadigal and Wangal Country), Naarm (Melbourne) and Ngunnawal Country (ACT), the release boasts a wide variety of club, progressive, electro, downtempo and breaks, catering to a diverse audience. In this press pack, we have included 3 tracks that we feel give a good taste for the compilation. 

The compilation will be released on Bandcamp alongside 10 cyanotype prints made with native flora (by India Heath). All proceeds from the compilation and print sales will be donated to Firesticks Alliance (firesticks.org.au). 

 'Bodega Sound' and all associated artworks were created, produced and compiled on unceded Aboriginal land. General Merchant acknowledges that it operates on stolen land, belonging to the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, and we pay our respects to Aboriginal elders past, present and emerging. In efforts to better the spaces we use and challenge the way the 
dance music community functions in respect to indigenous communities, we will be donating to (and raising awareness for) a carefully chosen organisation.  

 Firesticks Alliance is an indigenous-led network that aims to facilitate and reinvigorate cultural burning through indigenous teaching about fire and land management. This is achieved through training and implementation of on-ground fire management. Firesticks also collaborate with the scientific community to monitor and establish a greater understanding of 
the ecological impacts of cultural burning practice. The overall aim is to enhance ecosystem health through a process that enables and empowers Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities to collaborate. If you would like to learn more about Firesticks Alliance, their website is linked below.
