Nico grew up in a small coastal town in Galicia in the late 80s. In 2008, he started to involve himself with deeper shades of electronic music and their profound sentimental atmospheres. His interest became an obsession, and within two years he began to play in clubs across the Spanish northwest.

According to the artist, he was influenced by a golden generation of local DJs who helped define and shape his sound in terms of dance music, along with a rounded love of legendary bands and artists from across the musical spectrum. His musical philosophy is that everyone has something to bring, so there is always something to learn.

In 2015, Nico moved to Barcelona, expanding his horizons both artistically and personally. He’s currently one of the residents of the renowned Nitsa Club, and together with the duo Binomi, is responsible for HIRU, a multi-venue party across the city designed as an ode to club culture.

Nico prefers not to pigeonhole himself into any particular style, but his sets are nothing short of hypnotic. When he plays, he looks for that peculiar sensory union with the dance floor that connects them without words, seeking to lead the night in the same direction together.

Significant Other unveils a new project: Pain Management. A new imprint presenting music and visual media across a variety of formats. The outlet launches with an original 4 track EP: When It Rains.

Christening the label with his first full length release since 2021, the producer steps out from behind the curtain with a batch of tracks guaranteed to soothe psychic woes and challenge sound systems alike.

True to the name of the label, this debut release delivers a healthy dose of leftfield club weight. Tough and tender in equal measure, it’s a record that explores in-between zones. A fever dream of narrative experiments at the outer edges of club music, packing enough punch to shake a dancefloor, but enough delicacy to soundtrack the ride home. The final product is a meeting of outsider sonics and sleazy dance tropes, body music for restless minds.

Locking in with a new episode of our Truancy Sessions series with a mix of hi-energy hypnotics from Toronto-based DJ and tastemaker Kuscheln. An all-round purveyor of playful, thought-provoking dance music, he has become a staple figure in the Toronto underground, with his Klub Ferret parties offering nights of steamy dance-offs and queer revelry to a soundtrack of the hottest house and bubbling bass. His mix for us today is party perfection, rolling through with an infectious palette of  late night mind twisters, soaring grooves and big room breaks. As the curveball-loving fans that we are at Truants too, we've completely lost count of the amount of times we've wheeled up the Spice Girls remix in this mix. An unreal statement of flow and taste over 100 glorious minutes.

Tammo Hesselink likes to play around with many different rhythms. In terms of both what he makes and what he spins, he is drawn to stripped-back building blocks that allow him to get creative and find new sounds in what he combines. Whether that's the bass-driven swagger of UK sounds or the more psychedelic and loopy end of techno, what he does is mix it all into something unpredictable yet compelling.

Riccardo Villella is one of the legends behind the sick Truants site and also a DJ, producer and graphic designer - someone we've been hoping to get on our podcast series for quite some time. Having contributed mixes to the likes of Rinse FM, Upperberry, Hypnotic Groove, and Lowlife Cartel, we're well versed on his dynamic sound and conceptual approach. For podcast number 22, it's no different. Riccardo has contributed a stand-out mix which sees him explore a new sound which is more relentless than listeners may have previously known him for.

Referring to the 'Grid Cycle' concept behind the mix Riccardo says, "I wanted this to reflect a mix I did a couple of years back where it’s pretty get-go from the start and builds on that high intensity throughout. I’ve been toing and froing about creating a new alias called Grid Cycle for these types of mixes as they’re usually quite a far cry to the more four-to-the-floor house and techno mixes I have on my Soundcloud where I build from quite slow. I’m hoping this gives me a chance to play quite club orientated electro, IDM, jungle, dubstep, hardcore, and higher tempo music in general and for people to maybe associate that on any future mixes I do in this style. I fell deep into a Bandcamp wormhole with this so shout out to tracks by Local Group, KOSMODOD, Train To Eltanin, Acid Lab, Wisp, Clarity, and Varum. Also, that closer from Bot1500 is one of my fave tracks at that moment too - highly recommended!"
