“I'm into so many different styles at the minute so it was hard deciding on the vibe I wanted to go for, so there are lots of energy shifts throughout the mix,” she tells us. “It's got some beautiful moments, some deep, moody moments and – of course – some wonky, weirdo high-energy bangers. I also wanted to take the opportunity to showcase some incredible new music from mates, some forthcoming Pressure Dome, and a new remix I've been working on, all of which I'm excited to share!”

Crack Mix 488: Yushh

He might hail from France but @simocell has always worn his love for UK music on his sleeve. It is no wonder then that his intricate broken beats, bass heavy grooves and halftime techno has come on vital labels like Livity Sound and The Trilogy Tapes. He is a frequent collaborator too, with everyone from Peter van Hoesen to Hodge, but his own signature sound design always stands out. The TEMƎT Music head's Selectors set from 2021 remains one of the most impressive multi-genre showcases we have heard and this week the Paris-based DJ repeats that trick once more. 

Over the course of 100 minutes, Simo Cell goes deep into everything he has always been about: heavy rhythms designed to move the body, heady synth designs that are intricate yet powerful, and a masterful control of energy and flow which means he can lock in a dance floor whether firing out high-speed juke or teasing with slow and supple dub. It's a whirlwind ride that will awaken every fibre of your being.

Sobolik, a Brooklyn-based producer, DJ, promoter and label curator is up next for Tapes #98. Co-heading the London label All Centre alongside Simkin and DJ Pitch, Sobolik has been turning heads over the past two years with futuristic club cuts on labels such as 3024, CloudCore, Woozy, and early reflex. Sobolik's world is filled with colour and hyperkinetic energy - not fitting in one box, their output reacts to a broad palette of styles across North American and UK club music traditions. 

In February, they released their third EP, entitled Packet Loss, in a debut collaboration with Kindergarten Records, joining modern bass scene luminaries like Ayesha, Sha Ru, and Stolen Velour at Brooklyn’s preeminent home of chaotic, forward-thinking digital percussion tracks.

3024: Please describe the mix in a single sentence ?

Yushh: A good level of nuts and emotions 

3024: What DJ inspires you at the moment / has inspired you throughout the years and why?

Yushh : Tom Boogizm has played some of my favourite sets over the past couple of years. Unexpected twists and turns but always huge vibes. I’m lucky in Bristol to be around people like Bruce and Batu who’ve always been inspiring to me as DJs - Love the way they carve out their sets in a unique and unpredictable way. I-sha is also a huge inspiration - her sets don’t even sound like dj sets more like a live - so considered and patient and incredible selections. 


3024: What are you working on / what have you got forthcoming?

Yushh : I’ve just finished up a few remixes which should be dropping pretty soon and hoping to finish up another EP and maybe even a mini album by the end of the year. Otherwise I'm looking forward to diving headfirst into festival season then heading to Asia and Auz later in the year for the first time which is crazy exciting.

3024 TAPES 006 : Yushh

A gem within London's electronic music scene, Eich is a DJ, producer and founder of the More Cowbell online community. Launched in 2019, More Cowbell initially started as a place for Eich to share the love of dance music that existed within the realms of UK techno and bass music. The discussion page is growing continuously and has become a great place for new discovery as people within the community religiously post new music, radio shows and recommendations from across the globe. As More Cowbell continues to grow and become a dance music staple, the platform has evolved and expanded over the years with it now existing as a record label, club night and Rinse FM residency. Collaborating with like-minded platforms such as Keep Hush, More Cowbell has released records from the likes of Monir, Spektralsound, PAS1, Eyeza, and Aeus Deuz - in November 2021, the label put out their first ever vinyl release. 

Being named as one of DJ Mag's emerging artists to watch out for last year, Eich has been working on her own productions, releasing her debut track in August 2022 as part of a Woozy compilation. Eich quickly followed up with her first EP release in November, 'Red', which was released via her More Cowbell label. This tirelessly commitment to music and constantly working on her craft has not gone unnoticed. Touring across the UK and key dates in Europe, some of Eich's most notably gigs include Dimensions Festival, Outlook Festival, GALA, fabric, HVYWGHT, Left, Right & Centre as well as playing for Warning and Awkwardly Social in Berlin. 

Speaking about the mix, Eich says, "this mix is heavily inspired by my first love in dance music; house. It's dark in parts and light in others, which is generally what I love so much about the genre. I picked some of my favourite records, mixed in with some newer bits to really showcase past, present and future."
